About this mod

Gives weapons visual effects befitting the elemental damage they dole out; allows to make sustained skill effects visible out of combat.

Permissions and credits
Original preamble: I personally miss the special effects weapons in DAO had when enchanted with elemental effects and wanted those back. I haven't found out a method yet to port those over yet, but in experimenting, I found I could activate them while in combat. Sadly, armors don't experience the same, it seems, but eh, it's something.

Should work on saved or new game cycles both.

Will likely not affect Bianca as she doesn't have a proper model and is instead part of Varric's default model.

Installation Instructions

NOTE:
If you have used the previous version of this mod, delete "item_properties_crst.gda" from your Override folder first.

Now comes in four versions - unpack only ONE of the .erf-files to your "%userprofile%\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age 2\packages\core\override" folder.
The ERF file effects explained:

  • Shotgun_NewWeaponFX - simply ports over the elemental weapon effects from DAO and applies them where appropriate in combat situations; may also employ them to armors in defensive matters.
  • Shotgun_NewWeaponFXSustained - ports over the DAO effects and sustains elemental weapon effects in combat and otherwise; does not apply armor "crusts" as those have a tendency to do bad things to the ability to take a character serious in cutscenes, lol.
  • Shotgun_SustainedEffectsWithNewFX - Applies the above effects with DAO effect ports, but also makes it so most sustained abilities persist out of combat as well, including cutscenes (seems to only apply to the weapon effects themselves, however). Comes with automatic compatibility to Kirkwall Expanded, Additional Mage Specializations and Bard Specialization for DA2.
  • Shotgun_SustainedEffectsWithVanillaFX - same as the previous file but utilizes vanilla DA2 "crusts" for enchanted weapons.

To remove, just delete the respective ERF file.
