REMEMBER: Automatic Chargen belings in your addins folder, NOT your Override. Placing it in your Override will cause issues with your game.
Because of needing to go into the addins folder, It is not compatible with Vortex. If you downloaded it with Vortex and it went into your Override, there's your issue.
Sorry I missed this response -- you likely need to add the head you made yourself back in manually in the chargenmorph. (That's not an issue with this mod, by the way; it's an issue with mods that affect the chargenmorph xml itself -- this doesn't touch that file, it just causes the chargen system to open.)
Summary for whoever comes looking: had an issue where after moving PCs chargen stopped seeing all modded meshes and textures, saw it when autochargen popped up at the start of Act 3, freaked out, blamed it on my re-installation messing with this mod.
Solution was to re-compile my chargenmorph file. Dunno what it fixed, but it fixed it.
Sorry for false alarm and thank you for a must-have mod!
I just dragged and dropped the game into a new hard drive and got it working through EA Play, but the saves that were made after I installed this mod cannot be opened because "Automatic Chargen is not installed." I've checked the addins folder and it is there, I've removed and re-added them and created a new addins folder in Documents, to no avail. Granted I don't 'need' those specific saves anymore, I just wanted to know.
Edit: And now I know nothing I put into my Addins folder is working right either.
Is it possible that EA Play uses a different path for their addins? I have no idea how it works, but it sounds like it's not registering it for some reason. (Or possibly there's something else that works differently with EA Play.) Is all other DLC working properly? It's possible there's something that got altered in the manifests for EA Play that doesn't work for custom addins, but I don't have it to check.
Alternately, if you do want to access those saves again, addins can be removed from save files by using the pyGFF editor. If you're not familiar with that and want those saves back, I can walk you through it. :)
I copied directly from the old pc's hard drive into the new one (both are installed in the new system), and have pasted the Auto folder into the Documents and Origin Games directories of both drives. Nothing has worked so far. I had to "repair" the game to get EA to recognize it, and all my override mods work just fine. Maybe the problem is that neither hard drive is the "boot" drive, I'll try that next.
* whistling * no not me who has been trying to use this mod for years and only now figuring out it had to go into the addins folder when i wanted to go complain in this comment section nooo never
I'm not totally sure whether this would work on Mac, but you should be able to create an addins directory yourself. Alternately, you could try placing the file in whatever folder has the game's DLCs (which is typically the addins folder, but on Mac may not be?).
Mod looks like the exactly thing I was searching for, but I cant make it work in my copy on EA Play. I did put it in the addin folder and it shows as "unauthorized" in "downloadable content" menu, along with a "*" besides it. Can you help me understand what am I doing wrong?
Try downloading the update -- I made a mistake in my addin manifest file, sorry! The new manifest *should* work now without causing any authorization issues.
I looked around forums and found a way by editing the manifest file, changing values of "xml version" to "1.04" and "RequiresAuthorization" to "0". It worked for me! Thank you anyway! Endorsed!
Sorry about that! My initial download used the old format/version of the manifest file, which is what caused the problem. It is updated now for any future downloads. Glad you got it fixed on your end anyway, though!
Just a reminder to people that if you install the game through origin then launch it through ea play it will break the game. If youve done this you may need to reinstall it. The ea play version may not support the dlc nor mods btw.
I just went through the whole obnoxious mess of installing and launching through EA Play, and with my addin mods installed in the Documents folder, everything is still working fine, so hopefully there won't be many hiccups.
I did put the mod into the addins folder but it doesn't work for me... I've just started Act 3 and...nothing. Every other mod works with no issue. Maybe this one needs to be installed before starting a new game or something...? (I'm pretty sure I installed it before Act 2 but waited 'till Act 3 to confirm) I only use the main mod btw, no equip swap.
Did you put it into the addins folder in the game directory (such as C:\...\Origin\Dragon Age II\addins) or in the Documents directory (such as C:\...\Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age 2\addins)? I would try switching it to whichever one you didn't use, just to check. Auto Chargen doesn't need to be installed on a new game, and it sounds like none of its files are firing at all, which means for some reason the game can't find it.
It works now! I put it into the other place as you suggested and nothing happened but then I put it back where it was before and it somehow started working. Endorsed! :-)

When I try to select new hair with my missing head, it does show up but in a bright white. Otherwise, not other options work.
