There have been a number of mods created to customize the Hawke family presets and appearances, but as far as I know, they only extend to the main game and don't include the 'fake' Prologue that plays out when you start a new game.

I personally enjoy watching through it every now and then, but it gets tedious seeing the same terribly pale-faced default Hawke and Hawke siblings every single time. So this mod offers a variety of options for customizing the appearance of Hawke, Bethany, and Carver for the 'fake' Prologue. I've also uploaded a set of 'improved' defaults that makes a few minor changes as well as fixes a couple of mistakes in the original defaults.

These customizations WILL NOT affect the rest of the game in any way. They ONLY apply to the Fake Prologue scene that plays when you begin a new game.

INSTALLATION:

1. Download the file that contains the appearance variations for the character(s) you want to change. There is an 'all in one' archive as well as the option to download each character's variations separately for convenience.

2. Choose ONE appearance variation file for EACH character whose appearance you want to change. Copy these files into your overrides folder.

3. If you want to change Bethany's body appearance, choose only ONE variation ('normal' or 'Warden'). Copy this file into your overrides folder.

4. Start a new game to watch the Fake Prologue with the character variation choices you've made.

COMPATIBILITY / CONFLICTS / REQUIREMENTS:

None known.

This mod uses ONLY vanilla game resources, so there should be no conflicts or missing tint / texture issues.

This mod ONLY alters fake!Prologue appearances, so the rest of your game should be entirely unaffected.

No new files are introduced, this mod just does some basic headmorph / model swapping and tint / texture swapping.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Changing Bethany's body type is OPTIONAL, but if you choose any skin tone variation other than 'default' or 'light', you're going to want to choose a body variation. The 'fake' Bethany model (the 'well-endowed' one) is not compatible with anything other than light skin tones. If you don't choose a body replacer, you'll wind up with a dark-skinned face and a pale-skinned body.

You can see examples of this in the sample screenshots for the dark-skinned Bethany variants.

Any changes made to the default Male or Female Hawke will revert back to the game's original default when the Character Generation screen opens and the real game starts.

There are preview images included for all the various appearance changes, and most of the variations should be fairly self-explanatory. The list of changes for the 'improved defaults' versions might not be so readily apparent, though, so here's a list of exactly what was changed for the 'improved default' variations:

- tweaked all characters' skin tones / textures to even out the coloring and make the complexion less pasty.

- tweaked default Male Hawke's skin textures to smooth out some of the excessive wrinkles.

- tweaked the color of the 'blood smear' tattoo on Male Hawke's face to match Female Hawke's.

- tweaked default Female Hawke's blue eyes to a less fluorescent shade.

- fixed an error in fake!Carver's headmorph tint settings that made his eyebrows blond instead of black.

- fixed a error or oversight issue with default Female Hawke's cheek makeup tint setting. the field for her blush tint was left blank for some reason, which causes it to show up as bright white. you usually don't notice this because the default skin tone is so horribly pale, but if you change her skin tone at all, you can see bright white splotches on her face.

- replaced fake!Bethany's overly-endowed body type with her normal body.

For all the other Hawke variations, I've really just changed skin/eye tints, and for all the other Bethany and Carver variations I've swapped in the different family preset versions.
