Pre-Built Histories

The three preset worldstates available to select in the Character Creator are as follows:

Hero of Ferelden

A young man from a noble family rose to become a Grey Warden, then ended the Fifth Blight by killing the Archdemon himself—and surviving. He always strove for the greater good, and placed his friend Alistair on the throne of Ferelden.

The Martyr
Ferelden will forever remember the young Dalish elf who died to kill the fifth Archdemon. Even though she had reason to be cynical, her actions always benefited others. She left a kingdom ruled jointly by Alistair and Anora.

No Compromise
A ruthless dwarven noble took command of Ferelden's Grey Wardens, then let nothing stand between him and victory. He exiled Alistair, sent Loghain to his death against the Archdemon, and left Anora as Ferelden's ruler.

These have been edited very slightly to correct errors and improve consistency with what choices are available in a vanilla Origins playthrough.

Customizing Pre-Built Histories

The import process has been rewritten so that now, rather than being hard-coded into the vault script, these pre-built histories are imported from an external spreadsheet, which can be modified by the user.

If you are interested in custom pre-built histories, you will need to download the optional Pre-Built Histories file. You will also want to remove wvlt_preset_vanilla.gda from the main mod files.

To edit the pre-built histories:
  • wvlt.xls can be edited and re-exported by dragging and dropping it onto the included ExcelProcessor.exe (which is a file that comes with the Origins Toolset and has been included with my files for convenience).
  • Any sheets in wvlt.xls which begin with an underscore will NOT be exported by the processor.
  • The file or excel sheets can be renamed to wvlt_preset_[ANYTHING] and function correctly, but you should have only one in override.
  • Alternatively, wvlt_preset.gda can be edited using GDApp, but the spreadsheet is much nicer. Do the spreadsheet.

Unfortunately, due to the string references being hard-coded into the character creator, the descriptions of each world state cannot be easily changed.

For a list of all mentions of imported content in game please see this article.

Vanilla+ Pre-Built Histories

Downloading the optional Pre-Built Histories file will also download the Vanilla+ changes I have made to the world states. These changes have been made with an aim to diversify content and provide access to an array of sidequests and unique dialogue. You will want to remove wvlt_preset_vanilla.gda from the main mod files.

The most substantial change to the pre-builts was to change the default Hero of Ferelden world state from a Cousland to an Amell background, as that unlocks several unique lines of dialogue from characters including Leandra, Bethany, Cullen, Anders, and Elthina—as opposed to Cousland, who will not be mentioned specifically unless they marry the king or queen. This brings him more in line with Mahariel the Martyr, who is mentioned quite often by Merrill, Marethari, and other elves from her clan. He's still of noble birth, so it technically doesn't contradict the pre-built description.

The vanilla+ pre-built world states are as follows (changes from vanilla are highlighted, and fixes included with the main mod are marked with asterisks**):

The Hero of Ferelden:
  • Hero: Male human circle mage
  • Martyr: Female dalish elf, deceased
  • No Compromise: Male dwarf noble

Broken Circle/Nature of the Beast:
  • Hero: Allied with mages, allied with Dalish, werewolves cured (Encounter: Wounded Coast Act 1)
  • Martyr: Allied with mages, allied with Dalish, werewolves not cured (Encounter: Wounded Coast Act 1)
  • No Compromise: Allied with templars, allied with werewolves (Sidequest: Changing One's Nature)

Paragon of Her Kind:
  • Hero: Bhelen is king, allied with Caridin, Anvil destroyed (Sidequest: Last of His Line)
  • Martyr: Bhelen is king, allied with Branka, Anvil secured (Sidequest: Last of His Line)
  • No Compromise: Harrowmont is king, allied with Branka, Anvil secured

Arl of Redcliffe/Urn of Sacred Ashes:
  • Hero: Connor lives, Isolde lives, Sacred Ashes revealed (Sidequest: Miracle Makers)
  • Martyr: Connor lives, Isolde died, Sacred Ashes revealed (Sidequest: Miracle Makers)
  • No Compromise: Connor died, Isolde lives, Sacred Ashes not revealed

Landsmeet:
  • Hero: Alistair is king, Loghain executed** (Sidequest: King Alistair)
  • Martyr: Alistair is king, Anora is queen, Loghain recruited (Sidequest: King Alistair)
  • No Compromise: Anora is queen, Alistair exiled, Loghain recruited (Encounter: Hanged Man Acts 1-2)

Note: I strongly considered giving Warden Alistair a chance but I just couldn't bring myself to so directly contradict the descriptions in the CC here. And Alistair's outcome is one of the only things mentioned in every description.

Climax:
  • Hero: Morrigan's ritual performed, Warden slew the Archdemon, Warden lives
  • Martyr: Morrigan's ritual not performed, Warden slew the Archdemon, Warden died
  • No Compromise: Morrigan's ritual not performed, Loghain slew the Archdemon and died, Warden lives

Followers:
  • Hero & Martyr: Leliana recruited & stayed with party (Quest: Faith)
  • No Compromise: Leliana not recruited (Quest: Faith)
  • Hero & Martyr: Zevran recruited & stayed with party (Sidequest: A Murder of Crows)
  • No Compromise: Zevran recruited, Zevran left party (Sidequest: A Murder of Crows)
  • Hero: Anders recruited, Anders died at Vigil's Keep
  • Martyr: Anders recruited & stayed with party
  • No Compromise: Anders not recruited
  • Hero: Nathaniel recruited & stayed with party (Sidequest: Finding Nathaniel)
  • Martyr & No Compromise: Nathaniel recruited & stayed with party (Sidequest: Finding Nathaniel)

Note: Fool's Gold is now always available and not mutually exclusive with Finding Nathaniel.

Awakening:
  • Hero: City of Amaranthine defended, Architect lives (Sidequest: Secret Rendezvous)
  • Martyr: Orlesian Warden-Commander**, Vigil's Keep defended, Architect lives (Sidequest: The Conspirators)
  • No Compromise: Vigil's Keep defended, Architect killed (Sidequest: The Conspirators)

Note: The Conspirators has the only line of dialogue in the game that references the Orlesian Warden-Commander.

Warden's Keep:
  • Hero: Sophia killed, Avernus doing ethical research (Sidequest: Dark Epiphany)
  • Martyr: Sophia lives, Avernus killed (Sidequest: Terror on the Coast)
  • No Compromise: Sophia killed, Avernus doing unethical research (Sidequest: Dark Epiphany)
