About this mod

This mod attempts to improve the game by using imported assets from later games to improve continuity. It also improves the stats on select pieces of equipment; the improvement is based on the context of the item and is not meant to introduce overpowered items into the game. I tried to keep as close to canon as possible for all changes in this mod.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
This mod has snowballed, becoming bigger than intended; as such, I've decided to split this mod in three, see following links:

Grey Wardens of Ferelden Update at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)
Mage Equipment Update at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Mage equipment changes get its own mod, if you have downloaded the files from the previous version of this mod you won't have to download it again. I've only added a change to Irving as a separate download.

The Warden equipment changes move to a new mod. This is the main reason for the decision to break up this mod into separate mods.

Latest update moves Howe's Arsenal to its own mod page (Nathaniel Howe armour set at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)) and adds an Orlesian Bard set.

Version 4.1 Small update with model swap for two items: Biteback Axe and Cousland Family Sword

Version 4.2 - Small optional update to Spoils of the Avvar (SotA) by IceBuckets (Spoils of the Avvar - Origins Edition at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)) & optional model swap for Ancient Elven Armour using the Guardians of Cadash Thaig by IceBuckets (The Guardians of Cadash Thaig at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)). I've also included an updated version of Morrigan's Ring.

Version 5 - Changes the longbow model to the basic model from DA2 & the Antivan longbow to the Adder of the Antiva model from DA2; both from LCF. I have provided an update to the longswords for Gorim. Also removed the optional change to Ancient Elven Armor, this will be available in my new mod for Elves of Ferelden update, and removes the change to the borrowed longsword (due to it being integral to the cutscenes, and I couldn't figure out how to change the model when Soris first enters).

5.1 Gives the Axe of the Vashoth a Qnari model and updates the description. Improves the Biteback axe proprieties.

5.2 Fixes an error in the description of the Axe of the Vashoth, thanks SuntheSutherland for the heads up. Also, took the opportunity to improve the abilities of the weapon slightly.

6 Updates the Avvar in game to use various equipment from different mods. Updates the daisycutter axe with new model and new stats.

7 Removed Qunari changes to separate mod (Qunari Equipment Update at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)).

Change 1 - Model swap for Crow Dagger

What it does: Changes the model of the Crow dagger to the same as the Enchanted dagger.

The reason for this change is two-fold. First, dwarven daggers was introduced in Dragon Age 2 and they use the Crow model. The second is I found this artwork that represents the Crows: dragon age Antivan Crow dagger display by Novastar18 on DeviantArt. The model in that artwork is the enchanted dagger, and I liked the imagery.

Change 2 - Hirol's Armour

This is a simple model swap from human to dwarven massive armour. No other changes made.

The tint in the example is from loc_n_lol's excellent "Alternative arms and armor tins" mod: Alternative arms and armor tints at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Change 3 - Longswords (model swaps use base game assets)

Swaps Gorim's and Dwynne's sword to the dwarven model.

I've given Gorim an unique sword that has the "no attributes" mechanic and restricted it to dwarves and warrior class only. This is to fix the issue of Gorim not actually being unable to wield the weapon. The restriction was to limit access to his weapon in the early game. The standard version will be available without the modifications, except model change, in Gorim's store. I gave Gorim armour from Dwarven LCF by Shanamah, Dwarven Loincloth Fashion at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com).

Topsider's honor now uses the Dalish model, as it is supposed to come from an Elven family.

Oathkeeper is given the standard longsword model, as the Templar's in DA2 use this model and the weapon is a templar one.

Caution: This will change the model Duncan has, I've included a fix in my Warden file as these should be used together.

Ser Garlen's Sword is given the old Warden longsword model.

Dumat's Spine is now Dragonbone to match its description.

Change 4 - Mauls

I've changed the models of the mauls to match the Inquisition schematics. I've included the model swaps in the visuals. I also gave the Chasind Great Maul the Dogs of War model from LCF and Valos Atredum the Void Hammer model from LCF.

The other minor change was to change the name of Spiked Maul to Warhammer.

If you are using Qwinn's Fix Pack, that mod includes an alternative version of Trian's Hammer. I've included a how to guide on how to make the change for that weapon in the "Read Me" file.

Change 5 - Orlesian Assassin Set

In the game, there are three pieces of light armour linked to the Great Game and Orlesian bards and assassins. I've put them together as a set that gets the leather armour set bonus (-5% fatigue). The set includes the following:

Shadow of the Empire / Katriel's Grasp / Bard's Dancing Shoes

I also updated Katriel's Grasp to make it better; it now has the following stats:

+4 Attack
+1 Armour Penetration
+3% Melee Critical Chance
+10% Critical Damage

I did not want it to match or better other gloves of the same tier, there are three gloves that are better than Katriel's Grasp for specific requirements (armour penetration / melee critical chance / critical damage).

To get the look you need Retcon Light Armor Texture Rehaul by hoarous (Retcon Light Armor Texture Rehaul at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)). Specifically, the untinted version (see their page for how it looks).

To ensure you get the updated version of Katriel's Grasp, this should be installed prior your first visit to Denerim.

Change 6

Biteback Axe now uses Bard's Honor model from LCF. The only axe model that is unique to rogues in DA2.

Retains original proprieties and adds the following:

+3% Critical Melee Chance
+5% Chance to Stun

Change 7

New Morrigan's Ring stats:

+2 Willpower
+3 Defense
+6 Missile Reflection
+10% to Healing
Morrigan's Protection (+4 Armour)

Stats chosen based on the high-level targes and stats from Mythal's Blessing shield. Morrigan's Protection is an unused stat from game files.

There is a mod that gives an OP version: Morrigan's Ring at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)

Longbows (Requires LCF)

Changes the longbow model to the basic model from DA2.

Changes the Antivan longbow model to the Adder of Antivan model from DA2.

Note: If using bowstring mod, these models will not be affected by that mod.

Change 8

Daisycutter now uses Mountain-Father's Haft model from LCF and changes the stats to the following:

Change nature damage to spirit damage on hit and increased value to +4 (based on description, felt spirit damage more appropriate than nature damage)
Telekentic was set as 0, I've changed it to 5 so armour penetration is now 5 (need Dain's Fixes for the telekinetic propriety to work)
Critical hit chance kept the same

Optional Changes

Armour

Battledress of the Provocateur now uses the Unique Light Armour model by TMP7704 (unique light armours file - tmp7704 mod for Dragon Age: Origins - Mod DB). Would recommend pairing this with TMP Light Armour retextures by Commander Strawberry (TMP Light Armour retextures at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com))

DLC Edits

Leliana's Song

I've changed Leliana's equipment to match the longsword model from DA2 (Royeaux One and Two) and her daggers match those when she has her cameo in DA2. This also applies to her armour. I also change her boots and gloves from studded leather to leather (based on the description of both). Her longbow uses the same model as a similarly named longbow in DA2, so did not change the model. Though these are standalone changes, I would recommend pairing this with Shanamah's excellent DLC Tweaks and Cameos (DLC Tweaks and Cameos at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com))

Cousland Family Sword Edit

Changes Cousland Family Sword to the Lowlander Longsword model by RogueLass from Thedas Arsenal (RLs Thedas Arsenal at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)). Also, upgrades the tier to steel.

Avvar update

I've updated all the Avvar in game, Sacred Ashes quest and in Awakening, to wear Avvar armour. I use four mods to get a variety of equipment, one is a retexture of an item found in Ferelden Pack. I've included an updated GDA and UTI for the Ferelden Male model; which is the only item you need from Ferelden Pack. The spirits effected are:

Maferath - Medium Armour and Greatsword from Spoils of the Avvar (includes head morph due to the equipment chosen)
Ealisay - Sapphim's Avvar leathers (states she is a child hood friend of Andraste, therefor I am making an assumption of her being from the same Alamarri tribe)
Brona - Medium Armour from Spoils of the Avvar
Havard - Ferelden Pack Armour with Avvar Retexture and his in-game shield

Installation instructions

All files go into your override folder. They will conflict with anything that alters the same UTI. If your new model variations are invisible, you have a variation conflict, see: Item Variation ID spreadsheet at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com). This will help you resolve the conflict. You will also not get the changes if you have UTC's that swap NPC equipment to non-base game assets.

As stated, these are personal preference.

Other recommended mods to go with this:

Bowstring and Quivers by Scree64 (Bow Replacer version): Bowstring and Quivers at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)
Bow Replacer by Seyt: Bow Replacer at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)
These need to load after (or delete duplicates from) Dall's Rescale mentioned above
I also use model replacers and overhauls by Shanamah, Commander Strawberry, and Dalishnous alongside specific fixes by Ashhawke.
For vanilla NPC fixes, check out NPC equipment changes and tweaks by LadyofNemesis: NPC equipment changes and fixes at Dragon Age: Origins - mods and community (nexusmods.com)
These are just a short list of incredible DAO modders that make their work available. I do not count myself in their rank, I do simple model swaps of equipment readily available on the site. It takes time, but the real effort has been done by others.
