About this mod

Fixes pickpocketing or stealth quests from being locked forever if you don't have those skills the very first time you talk to Slim Couldry.

The "Crime Wave" questline offered by Slim Couldry suffers from two key oversights:
1. If you do not have the pickpocket skill the very first time you talk to him, the pickpocketing quests will be locked forever. Learning the skill later will do nothing.
2. If you pick the wrong dialogue options the first time you talk to him, you may accidentally lock half the questline forever without realizing it. These options do not clearly state that you are forfeiting stealth/pickpocketing quests forever -- for instance, the dialogue option, "Swiping things is my specialty," will actually lock the stealth quests forever and only give you the pickpocketing ones.

This mod remedies this by changing Slim Couldry's dialogue in three ways:
  • You can now unlock pickpocket quests at any time via a new dialogue option if you accidentally locked them before
  • You can now unlock stealth quests at any time via a new dialogue option if you accidentally locked them before
  • The initial dialogue options with Slim Couldry have been rephrased to clarify you're choosing stealth/pickpocketing quests to the exclusion of the other

As a side effect, for scripting reasons, the requirement to have the Stealing skill to unlock pickpocket quests has been removed. (Strangely, the vanilla game's dialogue option to accept stealth quests did not actually check if you had the Stealth skill, so vanilla behavior is that having just the Stealing skill could unlock both.) You may now accept pickpocket quests before you actually have that skill, or if you want a companion to do it. You still must have either the Stealth or Stealing skills for Slim Couldry to appear, however, just as in vanilla.

Can this mod be used on an existing save?

It sure can!

Can this mod be used on non-English versions of the game?

Yes, but the dialogue component of this mod is English only, unfortunately. If you have a non-English copy of the game, DON'T extract "den200_couldry.dlb" or "den200_couldry.dlg". ONLY extract "zz_crimewave.ncs" to your override folder. Then use it in-game by opening the console (the DA Wiki has a guide if you don't know how), and typing "runscript zz_crimewave" (without quotes).

If you have the English version of the game, you don't need to worry about using this script.

Installation

Unzip the folder "Crime Wave fix" to your override folder, located at Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override

Uninstallation

Delete the folder "Crime Wave fix" from your override folder.
