About this mod

A couple of Inquisition's vitaar patterns for Qunari (new tattoo masks + make-up mask replacement for Qunari).

Requirements
Permissions and credits
I thought it'd be nice to have some of Inquisition's vitaar(s?) available in Origins, so I went ahead and converted a couple of them.

They're available as both compressed and uncompressed 2K .dds files. If you're worried about the performance cost, or if you don't want to clutter up your hard drive, you'll definitely want to use the compressed version.

Please note that:

  • this is a cosmetic mod. Those war paints are technically make-up and tattoos, so they won't provide any damage bonuses or anything. Having them behave like kaddis would be nice, but it's way beyond my skillset.
  • I haven't included any morph made with these textures. This is merely a modding resource of sorts (see Permissions box above).
  • unless there's something wrong on my end, I won't be taking requests.

Each version includes:

  • a make-up mask replacement for Qunari (blush and eyeshadow only, the lipstick mask seems to be used for skin tinting and can't be replaced with a different pattern). 4 styles available, choose only one!
  • 2 additional tattoo masks (8 vitaar patterns total). They're the same in all 4 versions.

But... why the make-up replacement and the tattoos rather than just the tattoos or just the make-up?

Because the "war paint" effect is easier to achieve with make-up, and unless you stick to black or dark inks, tattoos simply don't make for good face paints (stronger tints such as these somewhat mitigate the issue, but make-up still looks better). Unfortunately, just replacing the make-up leaves you with only 2 pattern options (3 if you count the lipstick), which is a bit frustrating. That's why I added the tattoo masks.

Voilà, enjoy!

Requirements & recommended mods

  • DAO Toolset (required, you won't be able to use the textures if you don't have it installed)
  • Bright Tattoo Tints by Dalishious (not required but strongly recommended for vivid "tattoo" colours)

Installation

  • Open the .zip file and extract the desired folder into your override folder (usually located in My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override).
  • To uninstall, delete my folder from your override folder.

Compatibility notes and known issues

  • All versions will conflict with each other.
  • Will conflict with anything that modifies the uh_hed_quna, uh_hed_quna_l2 and uh_hed_quna_l3 .mao files.
  • Won't conflict with skin tinting fixes, but they'll have no effect on Qunari, who will use my skin tint map instead. It shouldn't be a problem since it does more or less the same thing (it's a uniform colour with a very (very) faint bit of cloud noise and slightly lighter lips).
  • Probably won't play nice with the Qunari Update (I don't use it and I have no interest in making a compatible version).
  • It's impossible to make something that looks good on everyone. I used Sten's face when I made it, so expect more or less wonkiness on other Qunari.

Tools used, credits and thanks

  • Made with Blender and GIMP (original textures extracted with Frosty Editor)
  • Original textures by BioWare.
