About this mod

Drain Life and Death Magic no longer are affected by Blood Magic\'s health recovery penalty, but only if the target drained has blood.

Permissions and credits
What it is:
This small change makes Drain Life and Death Magic more viable, and it just plain makes sense. In the lore, Blood Mages are not restricted to using their own blood or their allies' blood like the in-game specialization. Blood Mages should be able to use pretty much any blood in their spells, right? Then why shouldn't a Blood Mage be able to recover normally using Drain Life or Death Magic on things, provided those things have blood?

This small gameplay change just modifies these two spells so that they'll heal at full effect even while Blood Magic is active, but only if the target drained has blood. If the target doesn't have blood, you'll still take a 90% healing penalty from it like other healing effects.

Feedback
I welcome feedback on this thing. I've tested to make sure it works, but I'm still in the middle of testing to see if it's overpowered. Normal healing is restricted while using Blood Magic for balance reasons, I'm sure. Still, normal Mages using mana can just chug cheap and infinitely available lyrium potions all day, so it's not like Mages were balanced to begin with. I don't imagine this will break things and make Blood Mages too strong (Blood Wound already did that), so I would think this won't be too powerful. Let me know what you think about it.

Installation
Stick this entire folder into your "Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/packages/core/override" folder. If you use any other mod that alters the spells Death Magic, Drain Life, or Blood Sacrifice (it uses Drain Life's script), then this will conflict. You will have to delete the files spell_drainlife.NCS and spell_deathmagic.NCS from the folders of those mods or they may override my changes.

Want to change just one spell and not the other? Delete the NCS file for the spell you don't want to have changed. The NSS files are just the source script. I just included them in case anyone wanted to see the tiny change I made. You can't open the scripts in the toolset without them.

Known Conflict and Solution:
Specifically, Combat Tweaks (which I use and recommend) modifies Death Magic, but not its script, so that won't conflict. It does modify the script for Drain Life though, so its copy of spell_drainlife.NCS will have to be removed or it will override mine. Doing this will remove the changes from Combat Tweaks. The changes lost will be that Blood Sacrifice will be allowed to kill allies again (although its description will still claim otherwise) and Drain Life will no longer cause unresistable damage. I'm considering just adding those changes into this or making a separate version with those changes, based on feedback.

Other mods:
I've made another very simple modification that also helps Blood Mages. Try Lifedrinker Improved. Also, make sure to grab Uncapped Elemental Damage Bonus to remove the silly cap and make all your equipment useful.
