This mod is designed as a quality of life patch with full compatibility in mind with any and all official/community WADs. Changes made are extremely subtle tweaks to code, visuals and sounds.
Changes to base GZDoom.pk3 file:
- Baron/Hell Knight --> Green Blood.
- Cacodemon --> Blue Blood.
- Spectre --> Fuzz Blood.
- Lost Soul --> No Blood.
- Revenant --> Darker Blood.
- Pistol/Chaingun/Pump Shotgun --> Reduced verticle spread, now lies closer to vanilla without being completely flat.
- Berserk --> Red screen now lasts 3s instead of 20s.
- Light Amp Goggles --> Now last 1min instead of 2mins.
- Rad suit --> Screen is slightly less tinted.
- Invulnerability Sphere --> Replaced Doom 2 style effect with Doom 64 style.
- Weapon switch speed --> Doubled. I changed the default value so this should apply to all PWADs.
- Ultra-Violence Fast skill --> Added after UV. This is the same as UV with the -fast parameter.
- Ultra-Violence+ skill --> Same as UV -fast, but uses the multiplayer spawns. Not designed for single player, included for completeness and curiosity.
- Plasma firing sounds --> slightly less treble, to save your ears.
- Super Shotgun --> Removed that one annoying pixel.
- Pistol --> firing animations lowered slightly.
- Pump Shotgun --> pump animation inspired by PS1 Doom.
- Super Shotgun --> reanimated to look less choppy.
- Fist --> added gloved fist animation as seen in various weapon animation WADs, see credits.
Potential interactions:
Reanimation WADs are all technically compatible with everything, however if a PWAD changes some, but not all animation frames for a weapon, it could look slightly odd, but then you can just remove the reanimation WAD from your load order. Personally I just dropped them all inside nicepatch.pk3 as this issue is extremely rare when going through custom WADs.
Mods that increase weapon switch speed by calling the switch function twice will result in weapons switching 4x faster rather than 2x.
Installation:
Inside the archive there are three folders, one with "nicepatch.pk3", this is to be put at the start of your load order.
Optionally there is a folder containing some reanimated weapons, you can also place these at the start of your load order, or inside "nicepatch.pk3" or just throw them in the bin.
The contents of the other folder are to be put inside gzdoom.pk3 (this will be in your GZDoom directory). They will overrite a few files with subtle changes (blood colours, verticle spread reduction, alternate screen effects for powerups, weapon switch speed).
