Barrier recovery, the natural regeneration that occurs after a delay of not taking any damage, is fixed at 1000/s, tied to an attribute 'ShieldRecovery'. This value is essentially static AFAIK. I have changed it to be instead 1/5th of your Max Barrier per second, so it remains 1000/s at the default Barrier value, but increases as your Barrier value increases, and takes the same amount of time to fully recharge.
The Electromagnetic Shield ability has been reworked. Originally having the ability to instantly recovers to the max & boost your max Barrier by 5000, it now provides an extremely polarizing effect of converting your max DP to Barrier as well as providing multiplying your base Barrier value. You can essentially be an entirely Barrier based character. You can play with this ability full time or activate it when you're close to death to fully recharge and transform your health bar.
Details
Core mechanics:
Natural Barrier recovery rate changed from 1000/s -> 20%/s. This is a buff/breaks even regardless of whether you use the Ferde UT.
Ferde Utility Module:
Now gives a Flat DP reduction of 5000 across all upgrade levels (as opposed to the L2 upgrade being 3% more than L1, L3 being 3% more than L2, and so on. In other words upgrading it will give you the same bonus DP as before.)
Electromagnetic Shield ability (from Ferde - UT):
- Duration changed from 15s -> 25s
- Cooldown changed from 22s -> 25s
- Activation Delay changed from 1.5s -> 0s
- This means 100% uptime but you do need to periodically active that ability.
Active ability effect changed from
- fully recharging & increasing max Barrier by 5000 -> fully recharging & multiplying your base barrier by 2.5x
New effects:
- now reduces your current DP to 1 point
- reduces your max DP to 1% of original (it should have been 1 DP but conflicts with some operation orders)
- takes 35% of your original max DP and adds it to your max Barrier value
- provides immunity to Corrosion status effect buildup (DP loss over time)
Since the Ferde set is found relatively late in the game this might not be very friendly for a first playthrough, and also introduces some restrictions into your gameplay due to game mechanics I wasn't able to change.
Known hazards!
There are various actions in the game that will cancel most active abilities including the EMS. Beware that performing these actions is can be \risky while using the active ability of the Ferde as you can be stuck with 1 DP and small/no Barrier pool while the ability is on cooldown.
- Falling from height and entering the 'slow landing' animation. You can use use thruster boost before landing to reset vertical velocity and avoid this (you should probably be doing this anyways to avoid getting locked into it)
- Using consumable items. This plays into the style even more as you must avoid damage to recharge, so finding a safe time to restore BP or switch back to DP based is a requirement.
- Using Treb/sniper cannons... Sorry I have no excuse for this one. It's something I want to look into for future as it affects almost all abilities in Dolls Nest.
- If you fall off a cliff to take fall damage you will instantly die. This can be avoided if you recognize you are going to fall, by hovering and using a DP recovery item before you fall.
- If you are afflicted with Corrosion and then activate EMS, you should be fine but must reactivate EMS on the dot. Dropping EMS will get you killed within a second. Resupplying at the tree will solve your issues if you are worried about dropping EMS.
Otherwise I think this might be a bit overpowered in some ways as you no longer need DP recovery items and naturally recover at very high rates (provided you can safely disengage for a few seconds)... I kept the conversion rate low in exchange to try to give it the weakness of having a lower ceiling for HP pool, but it will have higher pools on lightweight loadouts which are already strong, once some nerve samples are allocated to Barrier Power. feedback would be much appreciated
