Necrolis helped me in figuring out the .sprite format quite a lot. I'm sure there are others who have helped me; all I did was make a fancy tool to do the work.

For a lot of different modding tasks, you're going to be running into .sprite files. Either you need to create a new skill icon, a new inventory item icon, or maybe you're going to want to overhaul the user interface entirely. Whatever the case may be, this tool will help you accomplish that.
Specifically, this tool provides the following:
Open/Save .sprite files
Export .sprite as PNG/other formats
Import PNG/other formats to .sprite
Preview with zoom, pan, etc
Frame scrubbing
(limited) Sprite Manipulation tools, such as rotation, flipping, and HSV color modification, similar to SixDice for .dc6 files
