Resurgence aims to preserve the classic Diablo II experience while overhauling itemization, skills and monsters to promote build diversity and add challenging end-game content.

This is the Beta for the Resurrected version of the Legacy mod "Resurgence" which started in 2013.

Permissions and credits
Installation
1. Create a folder called 'mods' in your Diablo II Resurrected directory
2. Create a folder called 'ResurgenceBeta' in this 'mods' folder
3. Unzip the downloaded file and put ResurgenceBeta.mpq into this 'ResurgenceBeta' folder (the .mpq file may need to be renamed)
4. Add '-mod ResurgenceBeta -launch' to your command line arguments for launcing Diablo II Resurrected

Patch Notes

These patch notes are not yet exhaustive or complete but include all significant changes. In the future we will have a website which displays current patch information with all changes to Skills, Unique Items, Sets, etc.

Items

Storage
  • The size of the Character Inventory has been increased to 6x10 (was 4x10).
  • The size of the Stash has been increased to 12x12 (was 10x10).
  • The size of the Horadric Cube has been increased to 5x5 (was 4x3)

New item types
  • Added 28 new Transmutable item types with a variety of uses - from forging Crafted items, rerolling the sockets of an item to upgrading an item to a random rarity and much more. All of these item types are Stackable.
  • Added the Horadric Catalyst, which drops from The Summoner in Normal. This stores Gems and Runes (at a cost) as Gem, Lower Rune and Higher Rune Essence. Ormus sells Extractors that can be used to retrieve your stored Gems and Runes from the Horadric Catalyst.  It also disenchants Unique and Set items into Radiant Essence, of which 1000 can be converted into a Radiant Prism.
  • Ring has been split into the following new item types: Amber Ring, Onyx Ring, Exquisite Ring, Mithril Ring, Archon Ring, Dragon Ring.
  • Amulet has been split into the following new item types: Sun Amulet, Moon Amulet, Ruby Amulet, Sapphire Amulet, Topaz Amulet, Emerald Amulet, Star Amulet, Prismatic Amulet.
  • Jewel has been split into the following new item types: Quartz Jewel, Scarlet Jewel, Aquamarine Jewel, Agate Jewel, Olive Jewel, Rose Jewel.
  • Arrows have been split into the following new item types: Balanced Arrow Quiver, Barb-Point Arrow Quiver, Apex Arrow Quiver.
  • Bolts have been split into the following new item types: Blunt-Point Bolt Quiver, Serrated Bolt Quiver.
  • Anya sells Schematics that add a property to a Rare or Crafted item.

Charms
  • Charms no longer randomly drop as Magic, instead you can find Unique Charms from specific monsters Griswold (Normal), Dark Elder (Nightmare) and Ancient Kaa the Soulless (Hell). 
  • Drognan sells Schematics that add a property to a Unique Charms (each Unique Charm has a certain number of additional property slots).

Nephalem's Valor (Small Charm)
  • Baal (Hell) now also drops a Standard of Heroes, which can be transmuted with certain Unique items to obtain a Nephalem's Valor Small Charm. This charm grants a Subclass with distinct bonuses - each Class has 5 Subclasses to choose from. Most Subclasses are specialized, boosting the power of build archetypes that are underutilized (such as Strength stacking Barbarians, Melee Sorceresses and Crossbow Paladins).

Magic Affixes
  • Reworked all Magic Prefixes and Suffixes with a focus on improving the average power of Rare and Crafted items.
  • At high item levels (ilvl 88+), low tier affixes start to be removed from the affix pool. This effect continues until ilvl97, where only the highest tier affixes are available.
  • All items that didn't have a 'magic level' now have a 'magic level' of 1, greatly simplifying magic affix selection (to always use the item's ilvl + 1).
  • All affixes can spawn on both Magic and Rare items.

Unique and Set items
  • Virtually every Unique and Set item has been rebalanced or reworked. There are far too many changes to list here, you can check them all out when our website is up and running!
  • Basic and Exceptional Unique items can be upgraded with Diviner’s Orbs, boosting the properties of the item in addition to upgrading the tier of its item type.

Runewords
  • Runewords that granted auras now have their aura levels fixed.
  • Beast no longer provides +3 to Werebear or +3 to Lycanthropy. It now automatically shifts the wearer into Werebear form.
  • Spirit now provides +1 to All Skills (was +2), 5-15% Faster Cast Rate (was 25-35%) and +30-40 to Mana (was 89-112).
  • Enigma now provides +1 to Telekinesis instead of +1 to Teleport.
  • Call to Arms no longer provides + X to Battle Orders/Battle Command/Battle Command. It now grants level 1 Might aura when equipped.
  • Grief now provides +200-240 Damage (was +340-400).
  • Doom no longer has Prevent Monster Heal.
  • Dragon no longer has +3-5 to All Attributes.
  • Dream no longer has +15-25% Magic Find.
  • Edge no longer has +5-10 to All Attributes.
  • Exile no longer has Freezes Target +1.
  • Faith no longer has Adds 120 Fire Damage.
  • Hand of Justice no longer has 100% chance to cast Level 36 Blaze when you Level-up.
  • Harmony no longer has +2 to Light Radius.
  • Ice no longer has 100% chance to cast Level 40 Blizzard when you Level-up.
  • Infinity no longer has Cyclone Armor skill charges.
  • Insight no longer has +5 to All Attributes. It now has Level 5 Meditation Aura (was 12-17).
  • Last Wish no longer has 20% chance to cast Level 20 Charged Bolt on attack.
  • Lawbringer no longer has +200-250 to Defense against Missiles.
  • Phoenix no longer has 100% chance to cast Level 40 Blaze when you Level-up.
  • Plague has been activated (it does not have Deadly Strike based on Level).
  • Pride no longer has Replenish 8 Life over 10 seconds.

Horadric Cube recipes
  • Lower Rune upgrades (e.g. 3 El Rune -> 1 Eld Rune) now only require 2 of the lower rune (2 El Rune -> 1 Eld Rune).
  • Specific Gems are no longer required to upgrade Runes.
  • Disabled original recipes that upgraded Unique or Rare items to Exceptional or Elite (this is now performed using Orbs).
  • Disabled original recipes that created Magic items with specific affixes.
  • Disabled original recipes that created Crafted items.
  • Disabled original recipes that modified sockets, durability or charges (excludes the ability to remove socketed items from an item via Hel Rune + Portal Scroll).

Weapons
  • Rescaled and standardized (based on weapon speed) the damage of all weapons. Notable buffs to slower, two-handed, bow, crossbow and throwing weapons.

Miscellaneous
  • Items now display their ilvl.
  • All Elite items now have an AutoMagic property.
  • Tome of Town Portal, Tome of Identify and Keys can now stack to 100.
  • Standardized the Durability of items. Basic items now have 60 Durability, Exceptional items have 100 Durability and Elite items have 140 Durability.
  • The repair cost of items has been reduced by 90%.
  • Health potion recovery per second has been increased and duration is fixed to 5 seconds.
  • Mana potion recovery per second has been reduced and duration is fixed to 60 seconds.
  • Key of Hate, Key of Terror and Key of Destruction now combine to form the Pandemonium Key which can generate an unlimited number of portals to Pandemonium areas. The bosses in Pandemonium areas are no longer guaranteed to drop Organs.
  • The chance of monsters dropping 'junk' type items has been reduced sixfold.
  • Jewels can no longer spawn Rare.
  • Class-specific items can now be gambled.

Monsters

New challenges
  • The Forgotten Sands, Matron’s Den and Furnace of Pain are now level 90 and populated with more difficult monsters.
  • Abaddon, Infernal Pit and Pit of Acheron are now level 92 and populated with more difficult monsters.
  • Portal Keys may be found to the following new areas: Grotto, Gallery, Altar, Sanctum.
  • Terror Zones are enabled in Hell and scale up to level 93.

Monster balance
  • Rescaled monster Life such that monsters begin with significantly more Life at lower levels but significantly less at higher levels. Character Skills and base weapon damage have been rebalanced accordingly. This change is part of a wider balancing effort - a part of which is to have low level Skills not require disproportionately high synergy values (and investment) to be viable in end-game, and to reduce the impact of +Skills on Skill damage.
  • Smoothed out the Level vs. Experience given for killing monsters. The end result is that characters should keep up with Area Levels more consistently (until Hell).
  • Monsters no longer have natural immunities, though Unique monsters can still become immune if they spawn with modifiers such as Lightning Enchanted. Previously immune monsters now have 75% Resistance to that Element, while monster resistances have been reduced by 30% globally (excluding Physical resistance, which has been reduced by 60%). These changes exclude some special monster types (such as Siege Barricades).
  • Monsters that block have had their block chance reduced by 66%.
  • Monsters that could not be Leeched from now can be Leeched from at 33% effectiveness.
  • Uber Duriel, Uber Andariel (Lilith) and Uber Izual are no longer guaranteed to drop their respective Organs for the Pandemonium Event.
  • Uber bosses (e.g. Lilith) no longer have Life regeneration.
  • Act Bosses now always use their quest drop Treasure Class.
  • Diablo, Nihlathak and Baal (Hell) are now level 90.

Character balance

  • Starting Stamina has been increased by 250%.
  • Base Mana regeneration is now 3.33% per second (was 0.83%)
  • Base Attack Rating has been increased (between +40 to +180 depending on class).
  • Rate at which Stamina is drained while running has been reduced by 25%.
  • Modified the + Life gained per Level:
    • Amazon: 2 to 9
    • Sorceress: 1 to 7
    • Necromancer: 1.5 to 6
    • Paladin: 2 to 11
    • Barbarian: 2 to 13
    • Druid: 2 to 8
    • Assassin: 2 to 10
  • Modified the + Mana gained per Level:
    • Amazon: 1.5 to 0.5
    • Sorceress: 2 to 2.25
    • Necromancer: 2 (unchanged)
    • Paladin: 1.5 to 1
    • Barbarian: 1 to 0.5
    • Druid: 2 to 1.5
    • Assassin: 1 to 0.75
  • Stamina Per Level is now +0.5 (was + 1).
  • Stamina Per Vitality is now +0.5 (was +1).

Skills

This list is not exhaustive and generally only contains significant changes. Virtually every skill has undergone balance changes - for some, just numerical tweaks. Many synergies have been removed or replaced. Lots of skill prerequisites have been removed. 

  • Skills no longer share cooldowns.
  • Skills that use Missile Weapons no longer consume missile quantity (excludes Basic Attack/Throw and Strafe).
  • Shrines are no longer considered Curses (and thus not removed upon being Cursed, and can be stacked)

Amazon
  • Javelin and Spear
    • Impale has been replaced with Volley: with a javelin equipped, fire a sequence of throws at nearby enemies.
    • Fend has been replaced with Athulua’s Strike: using a two-handed weapon, create an electric shockwave that travels along the ground and explodes when it hits enemies.
    • Poison Javelin has been replaced with Poisoned Points: coat your weapon in toxic poison, adding Poison damage to your attacks and making your Poison always last a set duration.
  • Passive and Magic
    • Inner Sight now also reduces enemy attack rating.
    • Dodge and Avoid have been rolled into 1 skill which provides dodge chance against both melee attacks and missiles.
    • Avoid has been replaced with Acrobatics: a passive that grants Faster Hit Recovery and +Defense.
    • Critical Strikes has been renamed Puncture and now also provides a chance of Open Wounds.
  • Bow and Crossbow
    • Fire Arrow and Cold Arrow now have a synergy to shoot multiple projectiles.
    • Ice Arrow now always pierces targets.
    • Immolation Arrow no longer has a cooldown.
    • Strafe no longer has a NexHitDelay.

Barbarian
  • Warcries
    • Find Potion has been replaced with Doom Ward: create a grotesque effigy from a corpse which slows nearby enemies.
    • War Cry wave speed and area of effect has been increased.
  • Combat Masteries
    • Increased Stamina has been replaced with Iron Lung: a passive that increases run/walk speed and the effect of your warcries.
    • Increased Speed has been replaced with Iron Heart: provides passive life regeneration.
    • Iron Skin now also provides Physical Resistance.
    • Natural Resistances has been replaced with Iron Will: provides Elemental Resistances and Magic and Elemental Damage reduction.
  • Combat Skills
    • Double Swing now has a synergy with Strength and Dexterity to add flat Damage.
    • Frenzy duration has been increased to 8 seconds (was 6).
    • Stun now has 100% Crushing Blow if you have at least 500 Strength.

Necromancer
  • Summoning
    • Revive is now a level 1 skill.
    • Golem Mastery has been replaced with Raise Zombie: from a corpse, create a mummified zombie that deals poison damage.
    • Skeleton Mastery has been renamed Minion Mastery and now applies to all minions.
    • Summon Skeleton Mage now only produces Fire type mages, which deal significantly more damage.
    • Summon Resist has been replaced with Summon Skeleton Archer.
  • Poison and Bone
    • Poison Dagger has been replaced with Toxic Skull: fire a piercing noxious skull that poisons enemies.
    • Poison Explosion has been replaced with Putrify: engulf the target area in noxious gas.
    • Bone Wall and Bone Prison now reduce the Poison and Magic resistance of nearby enemies.
  • Curses
    • Curses now have a length of 8 seconds, which can be increased via an Energy synergy.
    • Lower Resist now also reduces Magic resistance.

Paladin
All Auras now have a fixed radius.
  • Defensive Auras
    • Resist Fire, Resist Lightning, Resist Cold and Salvation now provides Maximum Element(al) Resistance.
    • Defiance now has a passive bonus for Physical Damage Reduction.
    • Defiance now also provides Physical Resistance.
    • Cleansing, Meditation no longer provide Prayer’s healing bonus.
    • Meditation now also provides Faster Cast Rate.
  • Offensive Auras
    • Might now has a passive bonus for Crushing Blow.
    • Blessed Aim now provides +Attack Rating rather than %Attack Rating.
    • Concentration now provides % Deadly Strike.
    • Sanctuary now also provides Magic Damage to Attacks.
    • Holy Fire pulse now hits every second.
    • Holy Shock pulse now hits three times per second.
    • Conviction now also reduces Poison Resistance.
  • Combat Skills
    • Holy Bolt now damages all enemies (not just Undead).
    • Conversion has been replaced with Holy Strike: using a two-handed weapon, deliver a blow with added magic damage that release a spiral of Holy Bolts.
    • Vengeance has been replaced with Rain of Hammers: call forth a rain of magical hammers at the target location.
    • Fist of the Heavens no longer has a cooldown.

Sorceress
  • Cold Spells
    • Spells that inflict Freeze or Chill now have a synergy with Energy to increase its length.
    • Frozen Armor now provides Physical Resistance.
    • Shiver Armor now provides Magic Resistance.
    • Chilling armor now provides Cannot Be Frozen.
    • Ice Bolt has been renamed Ice Lance. It now fires 3 projectiles which always pierce.
  • Lightning Spells
    • Teleport has been replaced with Telekinetic Nova: Deal Physical damage based on your missing Mana (it also leeches Mana).
    • Telekinesis now deals Physical damage based on your Maximum Mana (it also leeches Mana).
    • Thunder Storm’s hit frequency is now affected by Faster Cast Rate (at 33% effectiveness).
  • Fire Spells
    • Warmth now provides Cold Resistance and Maximum Cold Resistance.
    • Inferno now has a fixed (much larger) range.
    • Fire Bolt has been replaced with Fire Ball.
    • Immolate now takes the place of Fire Ball: delivers a short range, high damage, blast of fire.
    • Blaze has been replaced with Ignite Mana: consume a large amount of Mana to temporarily buff your casting rate and grant Fire absorption.
    • Hydra no longer has a cooldown, instead there is a maximum Hydra count.
Druid
  • Elemental
    • Firestorm no longer has a cooldown.
    • Twister speed has been increased by 33%.
    • Hurricane and Armageddon now last 2 minutes.
    • Fissure’s hit rate has been increased by 50%.
    • Molten Boulder’s travel speed has been increased by 50%.
  • Shape Shifting
    • Lycanthropy is now a level 30 skill and provides Enhanced Damage and Maximum Life.
    • Werewolf and Werebear now have a fixed duration (30 minutes).
    • Greatly increased the spread of Rabies.
  • Summoning
    • You can now have all Wolves and Bear summoned simultaneously.
    • Raven has been replaced with Soul of Winter: summon a spirit that provides Cold Damage to you and your allies and causes your Cold Damage to pierce resistance.

Assassin
  • Martial Arts
    • Assassin Finishing moves now only expend 1 charge (with the exception of Dragon Talon which still expends 3).
    • Cobra Strike now poisons nearby enemies when charges are expended.
    • Phoenix Strike now releases all effects when expended, up to your current charge count.
    • Dragon Talon now has a fixed Kick count (3), but this can be increased via Dexterity breakpoints.
  • Shadow Disciplines
    • Psychic Hammer now has a damage synergy with Energy.
    • Mind Blast no longer converts enemies.
    • Shadow Master now scales maximum number of Shadow Masters.
  • Traps
    • Blade Sentinel, Blade Fury and Blade Shield no longer gain added damage based on skill level (damage is bugged on D2R).

  • Fixed up a variety of issues with using a Controller to play. It is still not perfect but much more functional, further updates will improve the Controller experience.
  • Added a new 'Zones' tab in the Glossary menu.
  • Added four new end-game (level 91) zones which can be accessed via Portal Keys. These Keys start drop in level 89+ areas and are infinite use (any duplicates you find can be Transmuted with the Horadric Catalyst for 500 Radiant Essence).
  • The Forgotten Sands, Furnace of Pain and Matron's Den are now all area level 89 (previouly level 90).
  • Abaddon, The Infernal Pit and Pit of Acheron are now all area level 90 (previously level 92).
  • Increased the Life scaling of level 89+ monsters.

  • Telekinetic Nova now deals 7 base damage per mana scaling (was 1)
  • Reduced Leap knockback radius.
  • Magic Arrow now has a synergy with Magic Resistance. Now deals 110% Weapon Damage (was 100%).
  • Immolation Arrow ground fire damage has been increased by 100%.
  • Summon Skeleton Archer minions now attack more often.
  • Valkyrie's Energy breakpoint is now 400 (was 600).
  • Lightning Bolt's Energy breakpoint is now 500 (was 400).
  • Holy Bolt now pierces enemies.
  • Holy Fire, Holy Freeze and Holy Shock now pulse every 2, 3 and 1 seconds respectively.
  • Fixed an issue with Fissure synergies not working
  • Fixed an issue with Lion Branded Glyph and Captain's Glyphs adding incorrect bonuses to Charms
  • Poison Damage and Pierce modifiers no longer spawn on Sorcress Orbs
  • Rings can now spawn with the 'of Cleaving' Magic Suffix

  • Standard of Heroes can now be Transmuted with certain Unique items to create a Nephalem's Valor Small Charm. Nephalem's Valor grants a powerful, specialized sub-class (see the in-game Glossary for details).
  • Hell Baal now drops a Standard of Heroes.
  • Added 21 new Glyph Schematics that can drop anywhere in Hell, each providing +1 to a specific Skill Tree (when augmented onto a Unique Charm).
  • Ormus now sells Converters that transform between Lower and Higher Rune Essence.
  • Set items can now be rerolled with a Chaos Prism.
  • Adjusted the drop rates of new crafting items (again) - they are more common (again), particularly in Hell.

  • Alchemist Cubes are now a 2-step process and now use the item level of the input item rather than your character level.

  • Circlet and Coronet now have a maximum of 3 sockets.
  • Faster Cast Rate affixes on Rings, Amulets and Circlets now have a range of rolls. 
  • Quivers can now drop from all monster types, not just varieties that wield Bows.
  • Standardized weapon speed across base type series (i.e. Colossus Voulge, Bill and Voulge now all have a speed of 10). The only exception to this is Phase Blade, which keeps its -30 speed (Dimensional Blade and Crystal Sword are now -20) and Demon Crossbow (all varieties are now -40).
  • Reduced the base damage of all weapons, mostly neutralizing previous buffs in Patch 0.2 which were far too large considering the changes to monster Life.
  • The % Enhanced Damage bonus based on Strength / Dexterity for weapons has been halved - i.e. 100 Strength now provides 50% Enhanced Damage for a Feral Axe (instead of 100%).
  • Synergies now display 'per Base Level' or 'per Total Level' depending on whether the bonus is affected by + Skills.
  • Summon Skeleton Mage now benefits from Increased Fire Skill Damage modifiers.
  • Fire Golem now benefits from Increased Fire Skill Damage modifiers.
  • Thunder Storm's hit frequency is now modified by Skill Cooldown Length rather than Faster Cast Rate.
  • Hurricane and Armageddon can now be used while Shapeshifted.
  • Whirlwind now deals 120% Weapon Damage (was 100%).
  • Shock Wave now deals 75% Weapon Damage (was 90%).
  • Summon Valkyrie Breakpoint is now 600 Energy (was 300).
  • Mind Blast Breakpoint is now 10 Light Radius (was 300 Energy). 
  • Greatly increased the leap speed of Leap Attack.
  • Holy Strike can no longer be used with Bows or Crossbows.
  • Valkyrie now has much less Life regeneration and lower base Resistances.

  • Increased Inventory and Stash size to 6x10 and 12x12 respectively (were 4x10 and 10x10).
  • New Crafting (Transmutable) items are now 'properly' stackable, meaning any you pick up will automatically be added to a stack in your inventory (you can also drag and drop to combine stacks). Transmuting a stack to create a usable version of item. You can convert old style stacks to these new stackables (provided they have a stack size of 40 or less).
  • Added a Glossary to the pause menu, which describes a variety of properties, skills and item drops that don't already have in-game descriptions.
  • Adjusted the drop rates for new Crafting items. The result is generally a significant reduction in drop rates, particularly for lower levels, however Crystals are now more common relative to the other types. Endgame areas (level 90+) now have better drop rates for these items compared to the rest of the game (both in quantity and rarity).
  • Blood Raven and Flying Scimitar monsters now spawn with Normal rarity items rather than Rare (recent changes to low level affixes, particularly added elemental damage, made them too powerful).
  • Fixed an issue with missing non-English Language string entries. This hopefully fixes the issue with players with non-English Language installs not being able to load the mod.
  • Fixed an issue with Weaken's skill description.
  • Fixed an issue with Mirabella's Heirloom (Prismatic Amulet) not having the correct item property.
  • Fixed an issue with Strongbox of Legends string display.
  • Fixed an issue with the Increased Potion Effect modifier string display.
  • Fixed an issue with Revive display Summon Resist as a synergy.
  • Fixed an issue with Amazon's Puncture passive not working.
  • Fixed an issue with Corrupted Matriarch's Lightning Bolt dealing no damage.
  • Fixed an issue with Infernal Lich's skills not dealing correct damage. Its Fire Bolt Barrage now pierces but no longer shotguns.
  • Increased the damage of Forgotten Hierophant's Blessed Hammer.
  • Increased the damage of Primordial Dweller's attacks.
  • Treasure Chests from Endgame areas now always contain a Unique item - crystals that were previously contained now drop from these areas.
