I have no clue why every fucking modder doubles speed of bosses, while adding them extra skills in FUCKING DARK SOULS 1 where your character moves like crippled hippo. ofc dont forget to give every fucking late game boss 2x more HP and limit estus to half while making every fucking boss agro on usage.

that GWYN fight is beyond retarded. stop making mods, this was embarrassing.

Bruh, you played the mod till the very end, prettly sure you enjoyed it, lol. Also, JudgeImpact, I wanna ask you this, what is that attack at the end of the video? is it due to some kind of bug that prevents it from happening? Here is the said clip: https://youtu.be/YzIuHc38FPY?si=DMxHPUC2yKZ8SBoW

I like this mod alot. only afew minor complaints is

-Stamina feels terrible you run out very quickly. Feels even worse early game. Later fromsoft titles make stamina more and more generous and you feel like you can do alot but with this its literally a downgrade from the already high stamina consumption of vanilla.

-Shields being nerfed to the ground is something im not too big a fan of i get it that you added the timed reaction style of blocking and thats great thats amazing for 2h users. But thats the point of the shield to start with now it feels like a disadvantage to even pick one up when you can just do more damage with a 2h and time block you only add more flavor of playstyles to your mod by letting shields have there normal 100% physical absorb and having that hold block to block playstyle. But thats just me its your mod in the end.

-Light attacking vs Heavy attacking they consume roughly the same amount but the light attack doesnt really feel worth it most of the time when the heavy attack consumes roughly the same amount but does more damage. That could just be me though just feels like light attacking is very situational compared to heavy.

-Encumbrance not much to say other than i wish we had more. Vanilla is already too restricting.

-Parry and Backstab not sure i understand why these got nerfed so hard. maybe imissed some thing but again it kinda closes off a way to fight certain enemies because its not really as rewarding. sure you get a free hit in but you're still taking a risk with parrying and failing one and getting smacked for free is punishment enough imo. Fucking with the parry timings also just why? lol if you were gonna make them a little harder to do but nerf the damage of them it just makes me scratch my head.

Other than that i really love the improved hit boxes on attacks. My favorite thing of the mod by far. solid 10/10 work on those and as i said these are minor complaints i dont want this to discourage anyone from trying it please give it a shot its fantastic for what its going for. Just wish there was less nerfs.

just a quick tip, shields let you consume less stamina per block, personally ive never found the stamina in aos to be that bad and imo it actually regens a little too fast, but shields are your friend if you have stamina troubles, more stability and natural defense towards attack (fire, lightning, physical, ect) means less stamina lost on perfect block,

that said, if you want the old shields back, you CAN actually just use param vessal to edit all the shields defense values back to normal, but it will completely break the perfect block mechanic (knowing you NEED to deflect to avoid damage even with metal shields is the only thing that makes the deflect system balanced.).

no, needing to use the system does not make it balances - that has nothing to do with balance.  Its about having a new system and the reason to use it (block without taking any health of stamina damage).  It already has its own reason to use it, but yes, ever shield letting you turtle up would get the way.  That say, his method to handle this is bad - he should have made the shield have less stability instead of nerfing the physical damage like he did.  I dont think he need to do anything to make people want to use it - getting to have your stamina/etc saved is fine one its ons, but if not in the eyes of him or whoever, then the proper "balance" is to then make it so when you dont use the system, its not your health that sufferers, its your... stamina (the think saved move by doing a timed block to begin with).

I modded the mod so the phys reduction of all sheilds is back to vanilla, and split the different on the nerf vs vanilla buffs from the fap ring (its 15% to all three instead of 7/9/9% (or about 10% for each, which is still to weak to bother using when you only have two rings slots, but since we can now remove it any time we want, a 5% nerf feels about right).

Send me a direct message if you want the edited files, or perhaps I will link it in here, not sure how anyone feels about that, or if it somehow breaks the rules.

EDIT - for some reason, with or without my mods, sheild seem to have some 10% reduction to their defenses - so even if the mod vanilla has a 40% phys reduction for the target sheild, for example, in game it's 36%.  What the hall causes that and how is such an affect no clearly labeled on the mod description or somewhere else?  guess I will look around for it and see if I cannot remove it.

EDIT 2 - ok, I see, not sure why he did it this way, but upgrades to shields add back +2% - so you would remove this 10% across the board nerf to whatever it set in the param file at +5, and then get a +10% bonus at +10 (or its better than that for the upper 5 levels).  Even armor works this way, which is strange, but whatever, its better than DS3 and no upgrades, and I guess its less broken that taking your starting armor to +10 vanilla, but still.  it would be nice to be told this.

here is a link to the container folder in my overall public-viewable OneDrive folder:

DSR Age of Sunlight - Better Shields and FAP Ring

So, download that folder and paste its contents into the dark souls remastered directory and overwrite all.  (or overwrite the mod files in your download or where you unzipped so its permanently modded or if you want to mod it further or do some merging or whatever).

Keep in mind shields and armor have some -10% to their physical/etc protections, and you have to get them to +5 to revert that, and then +10 is where all the buffing really is - IOW, shield will still be worse, but only be 10% of vanilla, at the beginning of the game.

If you also want a longer lock range, roughly in line with "" - here is an update that adds that.  I might go one more to change around the boss (and possible all enemies) soul drops since I don't agree entirely with the nerfs there, but I want to play longer before deciding how I feel about that.

Anyway, here is the alt file with additionally enhanced lock on range: DSR Age of Sunlight - Better Sheilds and FAP Ring and Lockon Range

EDIT - if I make any changes additionally, just brows up one folder level and you will see the other things.  I dont think I will keep pushing posts here - I am playing with mods and forums more than the game at this point lol

the souls were never nerfed btw, everything drops 50% less because everything IS 50%, check your shops and levels, everything (with some exeptions, usually in favor of lower prices) is roughply 50% "cheaper", putting the souls back to vanilla would really be like multiplying soul gain in vanilla by 2.

also the folder is empty, thought id let ya know

oh and could you unerf havals ring back to vanilla 2? haval got a massive buff and his ring got nerfed almost equally, but unlike FAP there was no side buff it was just a nerf, thanks if you do.

I can't endorse this mod enough. Literally every attack added to any creature is not a BS hyper-punishing poorly thought mechanic added just for the sake of the artificial difficult, instead it's an amazing collection of new attacks and skills that are perfectly integrated in the game's combat system. Something that seems to be extremely hard to pull off for the majority of Souls modders. So, congratz creator for delivering us such a good mod. I cannot recommend this enough, best "overhaul" mod out there as far as pure combat goes, imo.
Maybe Gwyn had an excessive attack that had an odd-time and is a little bit too fast paced for DS Remastered, but who cares, it's just one attack lol. Amazing job

I have yet to find ONE mod for any other soulslike besides AOS that doesnt remove a unneeded amount of crap from the base game.

      for elden ring or DS3.

shadow of the eclipse does ALOT better than any mod for DS3 or ER but still removes some important things (final bonfire fire, headshots, ect)

oh palase, SofE is overturned garbage with plenty of gotcha and other BS "balance".  I will take the two biggest mods for DS3/ER of this game (or this Sunlight mod here) over Eclipse any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

atleast SOTE doesnt remove entire boss fights just cause they dont like them, all the DS3 and ER overhaul mods do, like to a good chunk of bosses to say nothing of content, SOTE may not be perfect like AOS in its current state but atleast it tries to enhance the game rather then replace everything, and you gotta respect that, if nothing else.

No? They are mods, they modify the game, they get to do whatever they want. If they wanna replace all bosses with new bosses, they can. If they wanna keep all bosses, they can. What you're saying is literally irrelevant

just cause they can do whatever they want doesnt make the content good or smart, this is a free country so long as its legal you can LITERALLY do whatever the hell you want, but that doesnt always mean its a smart decision fun wise.

its really a rather big stretch to say the biggest DS/DS3/ER overalls just run around removing bosses (a good chunk off? what kind of chunk are we talking here?), but given some of the bosses and recycling in ER, that sounds like an upgrade over vanilla to me kek

cool, but your claim was "a good chunk" and neither Cinders nor Convergence do that and those are the two biggest mods for DS3 - champions Ashes, as you said, also doesnt do this, and neither does that other big one I cannot remember.  i cannot speak for ER - I will get around to a reforce playthrough eventually (wanna see how much, if any, the DLC changes anything with the base game - sometimes balance changes get shoved into iupdated with or around their DLCs).

As for DS1/R - really, it's PTDA and Daughters which are the two heavy weights, and they dont remove any boss fights, except Bed of Chaos is changed a lot in at least PTDA and for the better.

maybe I dont tend to roll with the smaller overhauls which do a lot of removing, but i don't see much evidence for boss removing in any of the big ones.  At worst, convergence changes some boss fights, but i mean, High Lord Woljnir and the dude in the Church at Ring City are just better - rmoved fights?  sure, but replaced with something else.  YMMV on how much you like that, of course.

      Not directly,

unless specifically merged via someone who knows coding (or you happen to be playing elden ring which has SLIGHT mod merging.)
you CANNOT run multiple souls mods at the same time, this is not a modded genre where "modpacks" are allowed to exist, while it can be merged, you must be a modder yourself to do it.

Hey! Enjoying the mod very much so far, I especially like the changes to Demon Ruins/Izalith and TotG.

I can't find the broken pendant tho. Killed the hydra and then freed Dusk, but the pendant golem is not at his spot in the archives like in vanilla. Where should I look for it? Itching to finally fight the DLC bosses again :)

I killed Lautrec at Firelink Shrine for the FAP ring. I quit, relogged, and the item was gone. So I decided to wait until later to get the Xanthrous Crown to give to Snuggly. Apparently, it no longer gives that ring but rather a Pyromancy. The AoS wiki is not updated in the slightest, lacking a ton of information. Is there another way to get the ring in this mod or am I just fucked?

yea its called ng+ or restart your playthrough

kicking lautrec off the cliff is such a cheap way to end the fight im glad the mod creator made the drops not happen on relog.

so no either do the quest like your supposed to next time, or at the very least just fight him in the middle of firelink and kill him directly (next time)

Hi, I want to say that the mod turned out very good, especially when new ones appear (hostile phantoms, second stages of bosses), I especially liked Gwyn, there was a very good fight, and also that you can press the block in the timing and it will be like parrying (from sekiro) thank you for the mod. And also that magic is also good new spells, I especially liked the miracle spell for a second life.

Hi, i remember when first playing the mod that i went here and basically demanded for you to add an invader based on my player character onto the game (with a eidicously specific description). Im just here to apologize for it, i admit it was quite the stupid move and im honestly sorry for even doing that.

With that said, i hope you take all the time you need for the next update. I really love this mod as it is the most fun ive ever had while playing this game. Take care and thank you for working hard on this.

Is there a specific file that governs weapon upgrading? Can I just not use that file? It seems to cause some issues with glitching item names and messes up the upgrade system for me.

Great mod btw, overall I'm really enjoying it.
