This mod does the following:
  • Reduce/eliminate texture LOD (Level of Detail)
  • Increase draw distances, less pop-in of mappieces and objects
  • Some low-quality LOD mappieces have been removed in maps and replaced by high-quality ones in some maps (e.g. Farron's Keep, High Wall of Lothric, Crucifix Woods, Irithyll)
  • Improved graphical effects courtesy of DS3's Yebis middleware
  • Enhanced bloom effects (courtesy of Yebis). Looks kinda like convolution bloom.
  • Improved lightshaft quality (courtesy of Yebis)
  • Improved Depth of Field (DoF)
  • Increased light draw distance
  • Improved tone mapping/color grading, aims for filmic tone mapping and should lend itself better to HDR
  • Enhanced particle/sfx draw distance and density
  • Adds glow filter for improved emissive lighting from candles/torches
  • Some bugfixes, some objects are badly placed in OG game, sometimes objects are shoved into walls or badly positioned, some candles, waxworks have had their positions corrected so it fits into the world better.

There are also two gameplay oriented changes:
  • The 10/15 seconds hardcoded fog wall preventing you from exiting the Firelink Shrine has been removed from the game. It is assumed this was put in there because the PS4/Xbone have non-SSD mechanical harddrives and they were not able to stream all the assets in time, hence the 15 second fog wall gate. This should not really be an issue on PCs nowadays, hence why this was removed.
  • The key to Grand Archives is now always laying on the ground. Previously it would only appear in front of the gates when the other lords have been killed first. This means that routing abilities have been increased. You can now fight Lothric/Lorian earlier, so you now have more potential routes.

These are likely the only gameplay tweaks this mod will ever make. One of them is to lift a hardware limitation of the previous generation and the other is a very simple tweak to increase routing possibilities. I don't think these small tweaks should cause an issue playing online but as usual, no warranty is implied and you use this mod at your own risk.
This mod takes a conservative and disciplined approach. It does not seek to alter the game's look, it does not add additional lighting, it does not remove spot lights or remove baked shadows. In other words, it tries to look authentic to the original game,
and yet a still noticeable visual upgrade.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A copy of Dark Souls III (PC version) w/ both DLCs installed

HOW TO INSTALL
  • Extract the contents of the zip archive to the Dark Souls III directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III\Game).
  • Start Dark Souls III from Steam, or run DarkSoulsIII.exe from the DS3 install dir.
  • This will start the InfiniDetail mod with ModEngine (supplied in the zip archive)

NOTE: Dark Souls III OG has a lot of objects/mappieces with no shadowcasting enabled. In this mod, shadows are enabled on a case by case basis in situations where it makes sense. This will be an ongoing thing as the mod progresses.

PSA: The current version of this mod still has some bugs. For example, you will notice some lightshafts being too strong and leading to overexposure. There's prob other issues like this still remaining. Overall though the current version should already be quite playable.
