**UPDATE**

Version 1 has been removed since it had blue shadows and Version 2 is just overall better
I've updated Version 2 with the latest version of ReShade & MasterEffect.

Install procedure is the same.

This preset uses Reshade 1.0.0 & MasterEffect 1.1.287

**IMPORTANT INFO FOR THOSE WHO HATE HAVING THE INSERT BUTTON TO TOGGLE THE PRESET ON OR OFF!!**

Open the MasterEffect.h file change the "0x2D" into "0x20" without the brackets. This will make the space button the toggle as it was before I changed it. Its next to the "#define MASTEREFFECT_TOGGLEKEY" in the "Global Parameters" section just at the top of the page. Once again, with NO BRACKETS!

If you wanna change it to something else then check the KeyCodes.h file in the Personal Files Folder which is located in the ReShade folder. ReShade folder is where you extracted the files from this lighting tweak

So for example for me its C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin\Game\ReShade\PersonalFiles file should be there.

It will have the key codes that you need to copy or manually type and replace the "#define MASTEREFFECT_TOGGLEKEY" bit.

ALSO!!!

If you have problems getting this to work, try renaming "dxgi.dll" to "d3d11.dll"

Props to
SSJetstream for pointing that out!

OR!

You can try using the new versions of Reshade and MasterEffect and see if that helps. Though you may have to recreate this preset if you do so as i'm not sure if this would work with the new versions. I'll eventually get around to updating thi with the latest versions.

For SOTFS! Your free to try in the regular Dark Souls 2 but I'm not sure how it would look so it's up to you.

A quick fix for the ugly lighting using MasterEffect but that's it, not fancy special effects!

Using MasterEffect due to its better use of Sharpening and SMAA. don't expect any super fantastic features. Its the same kind of edits. This preset if for people who don't want a drastic change but still want the ugly lighting fixed. It looks like the regular retail version but with fixed contrast and shadows.

Pitch black areas are actually pitch black and the rest just look normal though with real shadows.

Some of you may be worried about The Lost Sinner boss fight that has you fighting him in a dark room. Don't worry, its fully playable with this preset as I used it myself and defeated him with ease.

Here's a video with the preset in action. I couldn't be bothered labeling whether its on or off so just think of it like this.

When its Brighter & Uglier then its OFF!
When its Darker & Nicer then its ON!

Now just to clarify, the preset looks exactly the same as it is in the video however the slight red tint on the stone line menu is gone. and that's it.

Install Instructions

  • 1. Download The file
  • 2. Extract with WinRar/WinZip/7-Zip to Dark Souls 2 Install directory (Where DarkSoulsII.exe file is)
  • 3. Play!

**Notes**

Some people have reported ReShade/MasterEffect not working while playing through Steam and its required to make a shortcut of DarkSoulsII.exe file to desktop and play from there.

And some have stated that you could get blocked from it.

I personally have had no problems and play through Steam with ease and have NOT been blocked or kicked off of the server so i think you should be okay :)

Also i changed the Toggle key to Insert. Space Bar just seemed stupid imo especially since Space is used in DkS2

But if you want it back then just change

0x2D to 0x20 in the "#define MASTEREFFECT_TOGGLEKEY" bit

I've also linked both ReShade & MasterEffect in case you wish to use their later versions instead of the older ones that come with this preset!

Reshade 1.0.0 & MasterEffect 1.1.287
^^^
There you go!

Any problems, let me know!
