Dark Souls 2

A big new update for InfiniDetail. All credit goes to Ragevitamins (author of the excellent Dark Souls 2 Lighting Engine mod/framework) for giving me this specifically for this mod.

The stock shaders that Dark Souls 2 Scholar Of The First Sin uses for postprocessing effects like lightshafts have been enhanced. Sample count has been increased from 8 (the default game cap, rather low by today's standards) to 24. This leads to less pixelated lightshafts as you can see in this picture.

However, while playing the game, I noticed that there have been more improvements as a result of this change.

Depth Of Field (DoF) looks significantly better now. It produces an almost bokeh-like effect now in the distance. Normally my personal preference for playing any of the FromSoftware games on PC is to always turn off DoF, as I feel it ruins the detail in the background and the blur added by DoF is too pixelated/smudgy. This samplecount increase seems to have a knockon effect of significantly enhancing DoF now to the point where I'd rather leave it enabled instead of disabled, a first for me.

Also some particle effects seem significantly smoother/better now, especially when motion blur is enabled. And glare/bloom effects seems overall more refined.

Version 0.04 has been released now with Ragevitamin's enhanced shaders included. Note, this is not using Reshade or DS2 Lighting Engine. This is merely overwriting the vanilla game's stock shaders with enhanced versions of postprocessing effects like lightshafts for enhanced quality.

There will prob be a bit of a GPU cost because of the increase in sample count but it should honestly not affect the performance of this game much unless we're talking about old GPUs barely meeting the recommended system requirements of the game.

NOTE: If you use this mod with DS2 Lighting Engine, note that DS2 LE overwrites the game's stock shaders. So these shaders will have no effect on LE and it will not negatively affect DS2 LE. Therefore this mod remains fully compatible with DS2 Lighting Engine should you want to use it.
