If you have trouble getting this to work, you might check to make sure that you're actually moving the "SweetFX_settings" file from the "2-0 Legacy" or "2-0 Immersive" folders into the DATA folder. Maybe that was apparent from the installation instructions (since no one else seems to have had this issue), but I was messing around with it for about 30 minutes before I made the connection. The way I was reading them, I thought you just had to extract the legacy or immersive folders, which was causing the game to crash on start-up. Moving the sweetfx settings file out of the folder fixed the issue.
Also, make sure you actually have the right SweetFX_settings file. There was one in the DATA folder (not sure where it came from), but when I opened it, there was no game title listed under Description. If you're not sure you have the correct settings file, just open it and make sure it names Dark Souls Prepare To Die as the game.
Great mod. Thanks for improving our DS experience!
Hi, When I start the game it crashes. I have DSFix with a 1920x1200 resolution set, AA turned off in the game and in DSFix, and I have other mods but I tried without them and the game still crashed. I have an nvidia graphics card. I also tried downloading the sweetfx from the main website. Also just to say, I did extract both the main files and the legacy profile files to the DATA folder. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Got it to work by running in borderless window mode.
Oh my gosh thank you so much for sharing this! Nothing I tried worked except putting the game into windows mode in game and then setting the option in dsfix to "borderless fullscreen mode", then I put SweetFX in there. <3
You've not yet downloaded the mod, so I don't know how you're getting this; but you're right: the Legacy option may make the in-game text harder to read for some people. The Immersive preset is fine in that regard. In the Legacy preset, the Cartoon shader is responsible for this. You can disable it if you don't find it to your taste. To disable it, go to SweetFX_settings.txt included in the folder provided here and change #define USE_CARTOON from 1 to 0. The shader basically renders a cel-shaded look to the image, in a style similar to Demon's Souls and the upcoming Dark Souls 2, so you will miss those effects if you disable it. In any case, download the mod and enjoy! Don't forget to ENDORSE and VOTE if you like it!
I know I'm really late, but I was having the same problem with the text having a jagged black outline and I'm wondering if there is any way to turn the cartoon effect off for just text or is that not possible? I only ask because, between the two profiles I really like the way Legacy looks and would prefer to use it, but the ONLY downside is that the text is really hard to read. Please let me know what you think and thanks for a beautiful mod!
Would love to use the fantasy version however the contrast/brightness on that one is WAY too pumped up, it looks horrible on my setup and nothing like in the picture... Strange, anywho the Dark Fantasy works great. Very subtle difference between it and original game though. Wish it was a bit more drastic (I'm sure i could do it custom but i don't have the time) After playing modded skyrim i realize just how old this game is getting... Even with all these mods i have on mine it's not looking that great, but it's all perspective i suppose.
Hey I may just be blind, but i cant find in the main file download the actual setting file. Is it in the root folder of the main zip file? I spent like 45 min looking for it before giving up. Please help.
I'm having trouble getting the game to work with this mod. I keep getting a black screen that flashes until the game eventually just all out crashes with the error "dark souls executable has stopped working" or something similar to that. Please if anybody could help me out that would be great.
I cant get it to work It wont show any difference in the game even when im toggling on-off. I have already installed it on the root and am using this with other mods like hd textures etc but i only see ugly alliasing and no image improvement, like its not activated. Im also at the very beginning of the game if that matters? Halp anyone ?
Your vision of how dark souls could look is inspiring. The legacy in particular communicates so much atmosphere and tone that I'm astonished by it. It makes the world seem so dismal and dead...
Thanks a lot, pal...I was indeed going for that hopeless vibe. Demon's Souls had some intensely dense and oppressive atmosphere, and I can't just get enough of it. Your praise means a lot to me. Enjoy..

In 1.4 there are this line in sweetfx_settings.txt :
// external_d3d9_wrapper = d3d9_wd.dll
which isnt in 1.5. I tried adding it manually but it doesnt work.

I'm going to try it out. Wish me luck.
