Its because of the steam version that detects the savefile is not yours and overwrite it with a fresh one. I have a work around for this issue in my savegame post if you want to take a look.
I appreciate you sharing not only an incredible save file butt also your instructions to fix any issues caused by the steam account verification; both are high quality. I will just link to your save file posting and hope people will forgive my ignorance.
