About this mod

Adds more than a thousand random lines for the heroes to say, mainly in places where the same lines kept coming up. Lots of new road dialogue and inn item text.

This simple mod adds a thousand (and seven) barks to the game! I'm trash at Darkest Dungeon 2, and I cope by writing more dialogue into the game instead of actually getting good. You can have it too, if you'd like!

"Barks" are the bits of dialogue that pop up in little speech bubbles when the characters react to in-game events. The mod adds a variety of new lines alongside the game's existing ones, without changing any original text, to add some variety and keep the same lines from coming up over and over.

At the moment, it includes:

  • Lots more affinity change dialogue on the road
  • More battle dialogue for crits, afflictions, and near-death experiences
  • More carriage repair dialogue for repair battles
  • More lines at certain roadside encounters
  • More lines triggered at road hazards
  • More inn item dialogue
  • And then some!

The mod is built for the 1.0 release of Darkest Dungeon 2. It's a single text document. To add it to your game, download the document and add it to this folder:

Epic Games\DarkestDungeonII\Darkest Dungeon II_Data\StreamingAssets\Localization\Sources

or for Steam:

Steam\steamapps\common\DarkestDungeonII\Darkest Dungeon II_Data\StreamingAssets\Localization\Sources

The Great Ice and Fire#2898 contributed a Polish version of the mod. Contact him on Discord if you need your own mods translated!
It doesn't yet work alongside the game's Polish translation, though. I'm working on figuring how to set that up.

If you see any barks that you don't like, it's pretty easy to remove them. Just open that text file and delete the full line of anything bothering you. Or, add a "#" just before that line to disable it, and remove the symbol to re-enable it.

Let me know what you think! I hope this makes the road to damnation a bit nicer. I'm very happy to have done the thousand barks required to make the mod's name accurate. And if you enjoyed it... consider hiring me to write game dialogue. I could use the work.
