With this official add-on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can purchase land and build your own home from the ground up - from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more. Use all-new tools like the drafting table and carpenter's workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and sawn logs into structures and furnishings. Even transform your house into a home by adopting children.

Hearthfire, the next official game add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will be available for download for 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE on September 4.


So, it seems we are getting another one of the features from the Bethesda Game-Jam (No, they are not stealing ideas from modders...). Maybe we will get spears and goblins soon as well then?

    I'm going to have to stop reading this thread I think. I'm finding a bunch of the posts really disheartening. Many people seem to think that just because Hearthfire doesn't hold any value for them then it doesn't hold any value at all. There are all sorts of different ways to play Skyrim and none of those ways are any better than the other. I'm not remotely interested in new weapons or texture packs or anything of that nature but I would never begrudge anyone who wanted those things for their game. The more variety of content that people get for their games, all the better, I say. So your distinct interests don't get catered to 100% of time. Big deal. Suck it up. I actually own Skyrim for PC and PS3. I'm going to buy Hearthfire for PC and if it ever manages to get released for PS3, I'm going to make sure I buy it again, just so Bethesda knows how much content like this is appreciated by some. So there. <img class=">

    I've read a review about Hearthfire, and it's not as grand as the trailer would lead you to believe. The choices of land plots are limited, and so is the build selection in a mix and match sense. I'll still get it for PC when released though.

    I'm counting on the Nexus mod community to build on what the devs have done. They have to consider the game's stability on a console like the 360. PC gamers are permitted to take more risks and come out with a richer experience for it. I've even managed to get the kids in this game looking unique and distinct.

    So I'm hoping either I or someone else in the mod community can open up the number of possible plots and building options. I'm hoping to build a special mammoth rookery above Skyhaven temple for one of my characters. She's able to pick blades who will ally with the dragons on her terms, and strand a weaponless Delphine on a mountain with Paarthurnax. That should change the impatient knight's tone. :-)

    Hearthfire is a money grab.

    If you want to play house and adopt children. Go mess around in Second Life or some other lame program. If you think this is good DLC you should get your head checked.

    I'm a 45 year old gamer and never have heard of such 'WEIRD' DLC and hope I never will again.

    We all have Skyrim player homes and mods to build your own. 'That are not buggy'

    DawnGuard came and went and at least added something to the Skyrim player experience.

    Am 42 and also will not be buying Hearthfire...I think it's a case with us oldies, we have been there, seen that....many of us have had kids, raised them....done the whole buy a house thing...and see absolutely no novelty in the idea of gaming it too...If I wanted this kind of game content I would be playing the SIMS instead....funnily enough speaking of which, my daughters play the SIMS and just got the new expansion pack 'Supernatural', as my eldest was telling me about what it includes....something struck us both....as their adding the SIMS to Skyrim...their adding Skyrim to the SIMS.... <img class="> .... <img class="> .... <img class=">

    Coming from a person whose been following Bethesda mods since Morriwind, I have never seen so much complaining and whining of a DLC announcement (I think primarily due to an increase of 14 year olds playing this game; but I digress.) Sure, Hearthfire includes a lot of features that are similar to mods already out, but it will most likely be less buggy and more stable than the current mods. What would be even better if once this DLC is released, is maybe combining the similar mods to the newly added source, enhancing it overall. Oh and so what if it's released for the consoles first, are you really that impatient? You're seriously telling me that the THOUSANDS of amazing mods on here, something the consoles don't share, can't keep you contended till it's released? Remarkable.
    Stop trying to root out the negatives, and look towards the positives.

    I think that it's true that most of PC won't be really excited about this DLC but I find it quite interesting, it's like expanding supernastypants' BYOH and take it to another level, I would love to think that they saw those and thought "hey, this guy just found a really smart way to make something that we want to do, let's give it a try". I wouldn't see it as stealing ideas, I don't like many things from Bethesda, but probably the one I like most is how they get inspiration from the community, not only good ideas but several ways of implementing these ideas into the game, I see it like a cooperative development which is very rare in this bussiness, you can count with the fingers of one hand, the number of developers that works this way.

    Anyway, I'll purchase the DLC and enjoy it, I'm sure that some guys in here are going to make incredible things with it, that's a good enough reason for me to expend some euros on it.

    Adopt children???? is the dragon born impotent???what do u say to them when they grow up & want to go on their own adventure
    Children- "Papa i want to explore skyrim"
    Dragonborn- "I used to be an adventurer like u then i took an arrow in my nuts"..hence the adoption system..lol

    Not to dampen anyone's fire, but does everyone realize that by using the Creation Kit, you hand over all rights for the mod you make? I mean, it's right in the I agree/ disagree section. I can understand if someone felt a little cheated having something they slaved over rereleased for profit, not get credited and not get payed. Still, we all knew this. Personally, if Bethesda took something I modded, as few as they are, and did just that, I'd feel honored that someone took notice and felt it was worth the effort.


    Exactly, how can you copyright something that contains already copyrighted content? This has been a big issue of contention for years with the sims; people make mods for those games and expect people to pay for them, which is against the t&c of EA! People really need to read t&c before entering into agreements with anyone, this is something I learned when I began my business, and I have become quite anal about it, because it's the only way to be sure of your rights.
