Q: What is this?
A: Due to the great number of people asking how to make a good DFU character, I have created a basic melee combat character for convenience and demonstration.
Q: You could have changed--
A: I am aware that this character does not cover all the bases for everyone. It cannot cast magic. It is not immune to poisons or diseases. It is meant to be a very competent starter character for a new player to learn the game with.
Q: Are there any mods baked into the save?
A: No mods, vanilla main quest only. If you want to add quest mods or things like that after the fact, many of them have methods via the console.
Q: Can I use this save file with mods?
A: Yes.
Q: Why didn't you pick the Ebony Dagger?
A: I wanted to show that a properly-built character is capable at combat without it. If people rely on the Ebony Dagger too much, it could create the misconception that it's a requirement to be successful.
Q: What are this character's stats?
A:
STR 84
INT 31
WIL 37
AGI 44
END 60
PER 62
SPD 95
LUC 30
30 HP per level
Primary weapon skill is Blunt (skill is at 53)
Starts with Elven Flail in inventory, and a Silver Staff
Expertise in Blunt Weapon, Rapid Healing in Darkness, Immunity to Paralysis (High Elf)
Inability to Use Magic in Dark+Light, Inability to Regen Spellpoints
Q: I prefer Long Blade.
A: You can make a character that uses Long Blade. I chose Blunt Weapon due to the skeleton in Privateer's Hold. Now everyone can enjoy obliterating it.
Q: You should have higher Agility than this.
A: Please stop this. If you're trying to tell me how the game works, please stop. Agility does almost nothing in the unmodded game (it has more impact if you're using Physical Combat Overhaul, but still won't tip the scales). It is a waste of your points. I'm not entertaining bad advice like this.
Q: Why didn't you drop Intelligence or Willpower to their minimum?
A: Poisons and diseases can harm those stats, so if you set them too low, you'll die instantly when disease/poison lowers them to zero. 30 is a fair buffer while I max out speed (first priority) and strength (second priority).
Q: Did you use any exploits like save file editing to create this character?
A: None. Vanilla character creation, no mods, natural rolls (I rerolled stats twice and was happy to hit 95 speed). There is nothing that prevents someone from making this exact character.
Q: But is this character good?
A:
,
However, people will want to make their own character afterward to experience magic/thievery/variety/other stuff.
Q: I experienced a bug with this mod that--
A: No you didn't, stop being silly.
