Note: I won't finish this mod, and leave it as-is in case people want to try it. Hopefully people can come up with something that advances on this idea.
TO INSTALL:
==========
Extract into your /Streaming Assets/ folder so the BIOGs folder merges with the existing BIOGs folder. Replace files as necessary.
TO UNINSTALL:
============
This mod contains a folder called "Original BIOGs" which you can extract to return the questions to their original form.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THIS MOD:
===============================
A very different character creation experience from what classic offers. You'll answer twelve questions that will change your skills, material goods, and permanent scores like resistances, reactions, and combat. Some questions will take away from you, and you'll have to choose the least-worst option to go with. Some questions will open up entirely different play styles for you, adding capabilities you might not have considered.
WHAT IS DONE SO FAR?
===================
Mage
Spellsword
Battlemage
Sorcerer
Healer
Nightblade
Bard
Burglar
Acrobat
Ranger
Barbarian
All other classes' background questions will be replaced as I get time to do so.
LIMITATIONS?
===========
This mod is not at all designed to interface with your character history, the one that comes in your "History" on the F5 screen. The things in that biography may not relate at all to the results of these questions. Some day when we can more easily access the History writer, maybe this mod could write content into it. Maybe.
COMPATIBILITIES?
==============
This mod is compatible with "Better Default Classes" by ACNAero if you extract these BIOG files afterward. This mod is not specifically aimed at working together with BDC, but the two will work fine. Because BDC changes some class' skills, it's hard to balance this mod for both classic and BDC at the same time.
IS THIS MOD FOR EVERYONE?
========================
No, but give it a try. If you hate it, let me know clearly what you did not like. This will not oblige me to do anything about it, but it's better to say what your disconnect was from this mod. You can revert all the changes from this mod using the included "Original BIOGs" zip.
This mod has no hard incompatibilities, but it uses the default system to change skill values. If you use a mod that changes the names of existing skills, the points will be deposited correctly, but it'll be a different outcome from what the questions say.
ARE THESE QUESTIONS IN A FINISHED STATE?
=====================================
I intend to go back and re-do some of them, particularly the Mage, as I get some more experience with this system. There might be some balancing to do, though we'll have to see.
BALANCE?
========
These questions are balanced for their specific class. Some questions seem to have overpowered answers, but when taken in context of the class they belong to, they're much more appropriate. The Battlemage has an answer that grants +8 to all monster language skills, which seems really powerful, until you realize the Battlemage has all language skills in Miscellaneous. Therefore, the questions and answers are tailored to each class individually for balance.
WHY DO THESE QUESTIONS NOT MINMAX?
==================================
Minmaxing is one of many ways to play Daggerfall. Some classes do have choices that aim for minmaxing, though it isn't a specific focus nor do many questions offer it. Classic is extremely easy to minmax in, and if you need to do that to have fun in TES2, you may not enjoy this mod. This mod opens up many new paths that a person could not or would not do previously. Minmaxing is not always compatible with this vision.
SOME QUESTIONS OR ANSWERS GO OUTSIDE THEIR BOX:
===============================================
Yeah, space is pretty tight and finicky. I'll try to keep things in their boxes, but there are very real limitations with this.
