Permissions and credits
Version 2.1 is now released! Please see Version Notes section below for details!
Now with updated Vortex support!

This is a simple mesh swap archive patch that replaces the gas mask with a ponytail mesh, allowing it to be worn by your V without changing their hairstyle.

It comes in 26 different colors, perfectly suiting almost every vanilla hair color, and works for both masc and femme V's.

Installation

1) Download the mod with your desired hair color under the Files tab

2) Extract the .archive file(s) from the downloaded zip folder using 7Zip, WinRar, etc

3) Select one desired color from the extracted .archive files (if you downloaded the All-in-one file)
- See Images tab on this mod page to figure out which ponytail color matches the hair color of your V (found either through CyberCat or the in-game Character Creator)

4) Move the .archive file with the color you want to the "mod" folder of your Cyberpunk directory
- The mod folder can be found at "Cyberpunk 2077\archive\pc\mod" but pathing depends on your drive letter and service (Steam/GOG/Epic)
- Create a new folder and title it "mod" without the quotation marks if you do not have one already inside the Cyberpunk 2077\archive\pc folder

5) In-game, use the console command Game.AddToInventory("Items.Mask_02_basic_01", 1) in Cyber Engine Tweaks (CET) and equip the gas mask added to your inventory
- If you don't have CET installed, you can still use this mod, however you will need to find a suitable gas mask. See the pictures in the Images tab for the gas mask you will need to have

Please note: Only one color of this ponytail swap should be used at a time, as they replace the same mesh and will thus conflict

Using this mod will also swap out all other versions of the gas mask, as they all use the same base mesh that is swapped out and are essentially just recolors

To Uninstall

1) Locate the "mod" folder of your Cyberpunk directory where you installed the .archive file
- The mod folder can be found at "Cyberpunk 2077\archive\pc\mod" but pathing depends on your drive letter and service (Steam/GOG/Epic)

2) Simply delete the file you installed earlier, and that's it!
- Using this mod will not permanently alter any game files. While it is in use, the gas mask mesh is replaced by the mesh for the ponytail, but once it is deleted from your mod folder, you will be able to use the gas masks again.

Version Notes

Version 2.1 updates Vortex support following CDPR's changes to the file pathing structure for mods in patch 1.2!

Version 2.0 is now out for release! Thank you to Janecio14 for pointing out that the skull__mask (gas mask) utilizes multiple meshes!

Now, you no longer have to choose between the jacket version with a hair band or the visor version with floating ponytail issues. By replacing the gas mask mesh, your V can wear this ponytail mod in the face slot and have the hair band! This means almost no floating ponytail (outside of a very small gap on short hairstyles--see Images tab for details.)

With this gas mask version, there are still some issues I'm working through. Some alternate appearances of the gas mask will not have the hair band, for some reason. It seems as the meshes used in some of these swaps just turn invisible rather than changing to their hair band, as intended. This is something I am still working on, and the problem may be missing meshes that I have yet to locate in the files. Either way, as long as you use the suggested gas mask (titanium-reinforced gas mask) this mod will work fine. I believe there are also two others that work well, but four of the gas masks will not have the hair band.

In this release, I also adjusted some of the recommended hair colors in CyberCat. Specifically, the Gunmetal Gray ponytail has been changed from Hair Color 1 to 12, and Pink Rose is now 16 instead of 15. All color variants are now perfectly matched according to CDPR's hair color file names.

I also fixed some minor hex editing mistakes that may have led to some ponytail colors appearing differently than advertised.

Final Notes

Because the gas mask mesh has been replaced by a ponytail mesh, some NPCs who were previously wearing a gas mask may now appear with ponytails. This is normal for any archive patch mod currently, because it involves replacing current meshes rather than introducing a new one to the game.

That said, this mod is based on the player version of the gas mask rather than the NPC version. I think it's unlikely you'll see NPCs wearing ponytails instead of gas masks, but I have not yet tested this situation out extensively.

This is my first mod, and I learned a lot doing it. Thanks to the Appearance Menu Mod discord community for all the help and camaraderie! If anyone has a unique hairstyle they created for their V using this mod, please do share your pictures on my mod page! I'd love to see all the ways it can be used.

Enjoy! :)
