About this mod

Replaces most of the movie posters around NC

Changelogs
There's quite a few movie posters around in CP2077, but I wasn't keen on many. So I replaced them.

You can see the vanilla -vs- replacement images in the appropriate tab. There's just too many to make it worth going around town getting a beauty shot of each one! Choice of replacement was mostly guided by aesthetics/nostalgia/amusement, but I've striven not to make the selection clash with the wider game setting.

Extract the contents of the .zip file into your Cyberpunk 2077 game folder. This mod will, obviously, conflict with certain files, namely:

  • poster_old_movies_atlas_a_d
  • poster_old_movies_atlas_b_d
  • poster_digital_old_movies_c
  • poster_digital_old_movies_g
  • poster_digital_old_movies_i
  • poster_digital_old_movies_j
  • poster_02_d

Everyone gone? OK, let's overthink things!

The Bushido series is pretty damn old at the time of the game. Johnny remembers Bushido movies, and when V is with Judy in her study there's an option to comment that she's got the early instalments on physical media and how old they are. A datashard you can find says that the final movie - Bushido X - bombed at the box office so hard it killed the franchise, and that was last shown in 2069 according to the computer at the SPC drive-in cinema in the hills above NC. So why are posters for this long-expired movie series still stuck up around town?

Hence they've now gone. Their replacements may be familiar, and are particular favourites of mine from the cyberpunk genre repurposed here as movies. The vanilla Bushido posters were originally CDPR concept art to show the different styles in the game (neomilitarism, neokitsch etc) that they decided to reuse as assets - can't argue, why waste good work - and you can still see them, bigger and better, hung on V's wall in Deceptious' mod ArtisticArtistic at Cyberpunk 2077 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

'Corporate Wars' and 'Electronic Murderer' remain because NPCs actually reference them in dialogue you can hear around town.

'Crime And Punishment And Zombies' and 'Black Hawk Dawn Of The Dead' had to go, because like 'No Life 3 ' they're a pop culture reference joke that was already getting tired when CP2077 went into production. Please CDPR, leave that sh*t to Family Guy so we don't have to look at it, you can do better. The GlaDOS voice of that one Delamain makes me wince now. Cake and Companion Cubes became mimetic because they were good original gags, not stale callbacks. Anyway, back to this poster. The whole zombie thing got so oversaturated it pretty much killed the genre, you barely see any media with them at current time compared to how it was. What became C&P&Z's replacement felt extremely appropriate to this game when I saw it. If you know, you know.

'Maids of Satan' - serious Lucio Fulci/Ken Russell vibes off that one - gets to stay for the opposite reason 'Switchblade 2', 'Throwaway' and 'Wipe Out'  have to go: it's not another bloody genre nudge.  Altogether now: Just * Because * Your * World * Is * Cyberpunk * Does * Not * Mean * Everyone * Has * To * Have * Eggwhisks * For * Hands * (imagine 'clap' emojis where the asterisks are). That was a trap the Squenix 'Deus Ex' games fell into with all that 'oh noes teh augs are oppressed' business. WWJCDD?

Yes, there are fixers in this universe - what are you saying to me, 'Fixer'? If it's trying to be a reference to the Pusher trilogy it's failed. It looks like a kid who won't come indoors for dinner being confronted by their parent.

'Discrepancy' - spoopy scary skeletons are a thing in the future I guess? We'll call your agent.

'In Vitro Homicide' is too similar to the poster for Below Deck club.

'XRT 375 Residual Risk' just looks like he's wanked himself into a coma and I can't take it seriously.

'Cartesian Duellists' poster is replaced here but is part of my other mod Posters remixed - music and clubs at Cyberpunk 2077 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com) to keep the theming consistent (and to replace something on another texture file I didn't like). The replacement is something a very baked friend suggested which made me laugh so much I had to do it.

If you liked the vanilla movies, rest assured I didn't touch the Net site. Visual diversity, first last and always.

Rant over.
