About this mod

Robin's Enhanced Details and History expands the game world by increasing the level of detail, specifically through the addition of provinces, complete with new titles, characters, and coats of arms from history. The primary goal of the project is to increase the depth of the game's map so that less-powerful dynasties see improved representation.

Introduction
"Everyone loves an underdog." Or at least I do. I like to play as and see the less-powerful dynasties influencing the political landscape of the game, but unfortunately the level of detail in some areas of the base game is lacking, making this experience not what it could be. Furthermore, there are a number of history issues in the base game which I wanted to see corrected. Thus, I was inspired to create 'Robin's Enhanced Details and History'.

Scope
I am a one-man team, and this mod is something that I've made for my own personal use. As such, this mod isn't going to be for everyone. The provincial density that I'm aiming for is something similar to Wales in the base game, which some will frankly find stupidly dense. I also can't possibly overhaul the entirety of the map by myself, so please don't start asking for me to do particular areas. I will work on what areas I feel the desire to. That doesn't mean you can't send me plans or suggestions; just don't have the expectation that I'll actually implement them.

Currently, the mod only covers Ireland, with some minor edits to Scottish and Welsh elements (due to their political connections to Ireland). I have aspirations to expand the mod to areas outside of Ireland, but I'm trying to keep the mod restricted to particular areas until I feel that they have reached a level of completion that justifies expanding elsewhere.

Feature List

  • Complete overhaul of Ireland, including provinces, characters, dynasties, religion, culture, terrain, development, and etcetera
  • Minor changes to Wales and Scotland, such as a new dynasty and characters for the Dál Riata
  • Provinces based on historic political divisions
  • Hundreds of new historical characters
  • Over 100 new and improved coats of arms
  • Cultural names for Irish titles and ranks
  • More-complete title histories, often extending to the start of their recorded histories
  • Existing character and dynasty corrections

Compatibility
This mod is not compatible with any mods which add new provinces, alter titles (including the addition of cultural names), or which alter existing Irish, Norse, or Gaelic characters. However, I have done my best to place changes in new files where possible and document any changes I have made with comments, meaning that compatiblity patches should be easier to create.

Can You Help?
There are numerous enhancements/fixes which I would like to make to the mod, but I lack the knowledge of how to do so. If you know how, please do not hesitate to provide an explanation in the comments. Following are some items that I would appreciate help with:
  • The 'Rags to Riches' scenario screen shows Murchad Úa Briain's name as 'Murchad ua Úa Briain'. However, it shows correctly after fully initialising the game.
  • Coats of arms do not change with the holder's culture. (such as occurs with the county of Dublin when held by a Norse character)
  • The height map does not conform to the edited coastlines and added lakes. (I've tried numerous times to edit it, but I can't figure out how to use the in-game "map_editor" tool in a way that doesn't result in awful-looking chasms where I've made changes.)
  • The names of dynamically-generated Irish cadet branches are very poor. (I've figured out where they're defined but haven't experimented with editing them yet.)
  • The names of dynamically-generated Irish dynasties are often anachronistic and generally could use improvement. (I've figured out how to redefine these and will have them improved with the next feature update.)
  • The capitals of counties do not change between start dates. (For example, the barony of Galway should be the capital of the county of Maigh Seóla in 867 but the barony of Tuam should be the county's capital in 1066.)

FAQ
Q: Is this mod achievement-compatible?
A: No. This mod modifies the checksum, meaning that whilst ironman-mode can be enabled, achievements will be disabled.
