Contractville: Makeover Mayhem

This patch simply changes a majority of the text in the game to improve the experience for English-speaking players. This includes text in-game, UI, popups, settings, and more.

To Install just unzip the file into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ContractVille\ContractVille\Content\Paks.

I really love the game, but I couldn't stand how translation issues caused me confusion a lot of the time. I also feel that certain aspects of the game are never explained, so I made this patch to address that. I tried to enhance the thematic elements—you're a handyman (or handywoman) who starts by taking small jobs around the neighborhood and eventually becomes a construction company mogul. I wanted that journey to be more evident.

This patch is the result of over two months of work. This is just the first version, I wouldn't call this 100% as I haven't gone through the whole game with the patch as of yet.

A huge thanks to Blethezar, my tester and proofreader.

--Major Changes--
Goals are now Chapters - They are really tutorials that follow your rise from handyman to empire mogul with a mullet.

Missions are now Jobs- - Missions? You aren’t James Bond. You start off as a schlub taking crap from that Carrot Top looking mofo Bobby and doing work for old man Douglas. I think it just makes more sense.

Design Points were changed to Client Satisfaction - I tried to flesh out as much of the Design Score aspect as I could. I think the original idea was that while you were working on a job, the client would have additional tasks around the house that they’d like you to complete. Completing these tasks would increase your Design Score, indicating how good of a designer you were—or something along those lines. Anyway, I tried to simplify this concept into Client Satisfaction. The idea is that the client would hire you for a job and might have a list of optional tasks. If you completed these tasks, it would raise their satisfaction level, which, in turn, would earn you more money, so make sure Douglas is satisfied to the best of your ability before finishing the job.

Offices are now part of Industrial Parks - You’re a freakin' construction empire mogul, right? You aren’t just buying an office, you’re buying a freaking industrial park with a campus and multiple buildings. I tried to really acknowledge that as I want it to feel like a big deal when you unlock it..

Multiple construction themed changes - I really tried to get a crossed that you’re a handyman who came to the city and starts out taking small jobs, it seems like the Devs are having trouble deciding if the game is about redecorating or about construction type work. For one, the game literally involves constructing buildings, but the word construction is never used.

--Frequently Asked Questions--
  • How do I install it?  - Just drop the unzipped file into the paks folder. That’s all you have to do. It won’t modify anything with the game files it just adds on top of it.
  • How do I uninstall it? - Just delete or move the file out of the pack folder.
  • Will it break my saved game? - I'm not 100% for sure. I would back up any saved games. I'm not responsible if you break your game.
  • Does it work with multiplayer - Probably, though I've never tried.
  • I found a mistake. -  Post it in the comments and I’ll make a note of it.
  • What's Bobby's deal? -  He’s a carrot top looking incel who’s never kissed a woman and likes to rip on blue color workers.
