Scheduled server upgrade complete

  • Comment
The server move was completed at 15:45 GMT without a hitch and all the sites are now back online. The forums have also been upgraded to the latest version with a few bug fixes.

Thank you for your patience during this time.

All the Nexus sites and forums will be taken offline tomorrow from 12pm GMT for up to 8 hours while a server move is performed. The forums will be moving to a new, more powerful server that will help to relieve load and improve the speed of the sites for the coming years. It shall also provide the necessary infastructure for the upcoming release of Fallout: New Vegas.

As all the Nexus sites rely heavily on the forums to operate all the Nexus sites will be taken down as well while the move is performed. As usual the sites shall redirect to a splash page with information on the move and I'll be keeping the page updated on any progress and estimated return of service.

Thank you for your patience!

    (maybe an issue with 3.6.8?)

I guess you didn't read my post just above yours. It is not a bug in any version of any browser. A change was made to the CSS and you have to tell your browser to get the new copy by refreshing the page or deleting your cached files and restarting your browser.

Today it works. But I also got upgraded to 3.6.9 after I posted that... (maybe an issue with 3.6.8?)

Dark0ne explained the situation in this post.

Basically, he added the chat feature on the sites which required an update to the CSS (Cascade Style Sheets) which controls the layout of the page. Browsers typically keep a cached copy of it so it does not have to re-download it on every page you visit...so if the page looks messed up, you have the old CSS cached on your browser. Doing a refresh / reload should grab a new copy and eliminate the layout problem. If not, try deleting cache, close your browser and open it again.

Firefox 3.6.9 seems to work fine for me. Logged in or not. Reloading the page still showed the same layout. Also tried shrinking and expanding the page and it still seemed to work properly.

The site layout CSS/HTML no longer works properly in Firefox 3.6. Everything is now smushed into narrow columns with big dead areas on the left side.

The forums here are fine (www.thenexusforums.com).

The UK file server is being sorted today. Might have got it sorted yesterday but then a certain chat room full of individuals took all my attention...

    @Hazarks
JohnnyDeath13 didn't get banned, he got a warning.

I don't know if it's just me or something but I still can't get the Maidenhead server to work; trying to download something gives me a timeout error.

"Just realised I hadn't actually updated the MySQL connection IP address so the Nexus sites were still pointing to the old forum database.

Any posts made in the past hour via the site won't be visible. My bad."

    you are the best dark0ne.
