Welcome to Snakification Modifications!

This mod is a personal project nearly eight months in the making, with the goal of changing the appearance of every snakification in the game. My aim was to make the snakifications look more ‘organic’, that is to say for example, instead of a grumpus’s arm turning into a giant orange slice, their arm will change to look like a monster arm made of orange. If that doesn’t make sense, you can have a look at the pictures to see what I mean or try the mod for yourself!

Don’t get me wrong- There’s nothing wrong with the original snakifications! The Young Horses Devs did a great job with them, and in the context of the game’s lore and canon they make sense to look like that. I just wanted to make my own personal take on them, inspired by a lot of fanart I’ve seen of snakified grumpuses and ‘Snak Monsters’. Every Bugsnak has an associated set of snakification .objfiles, one for each part of a grumpus that can be transformed, and a grumpus body texture for body snakification. This mod works by replacing the .obj model and grumpus texture files associated with each bug with one of my own.

To install this mod, just place the ZIP file (don't unzip it) into the Bugsnax game folder.
 
Please note that in order for the transparent parts of the Sodie snakifications to look good, I’ve had to modify the definition files of the Sodie and its variants, and also its x (DirectX model) file. Therefore this mod will not be compatible with any other mods that alter those files, if such mods exist. You could try to run both mods simultaneously, but I don’t know what would happen if you did.

This mod should be compatible with my Cyan Bopsicle Mod.

Other potential conflicts to consider
The following Bugsnax have had their textures modified and replaced, so this mod will conflict with any other mods that replace the textures of the following bugs.

Note that this shouldn’t affect the appearance of any of the Bugsnax except for Cellystix (I made the peanut butter darker out of personal preference) and the Spuddy and Loaded Spuddy (their eyelids are now potato-textured instead of foil-textured, as a minor sacrifice for snakification textures). In the future I may re-export the parts that require modified textures to use their own material referencing a separate texture file, as I ended up doing with the Spaghider and Snaquiri limbs. I won’t be able to do this for ‘variant’ Bugsnax however, such as the Baja Tacroach and Sodies.

Most grumpus body textures have been re-rendered and replaced, so instead I will list the Bugsnax for whom I have not replaced the grumpus body texture.

Known Issues
Sometimes, for reasons unknown, the game will load its original Soda.x file instead of my replacement with altered UVs. This will cause my edited texture to appear overlapping the Sodies’ eyes. Aside from the minor visual error this should have no other effects.
If any other issues are encountered please let me know!
 
Acknowledgements
This mod was created using Blender, GIMP, and TextureLab.Blender was used for modelling and texture rendering, Blender was used for .dds texture editing, and TextureLab was used for creating texture replicas. All are freely available software.

I’d also like to give a big acknowledgement to the Young Horses dev team, especially those who created the original models and textures that I have modified and built up. And also an extra special thanks to Kevin on the Young Horses Discord channel, who helped me through not one but two major issues that threatened to progress of this mod. One right at the beginning with materials, and another with getting transparency to work on the Sodie limbs.
