2K made it so it screws the whole profile, even if you don't use the profile file. I ended up with my Guardian Rank/Points bugged to high hell (and ofc, being me I forgot to back up my saves beforehand, confident in my stupidity) - in their infinite "wisdom" they store Guardian RANK in profile.sav but Guardian POINTS on individual character savefiles (which makes no sense since you can't have different distribution on each character). Now I had the choice of using the provided profile file too (and having Guardian Rank locked to 850), or delete my saves and start from zero again.
No, I ended up with guardian rank 47 (mine) but several hundred guardian points already spent. And it affected all my saves. The mixup is so bad that it takes all MODIFIED categories from your old save, but shoves points into all categories you HAVEN'T spent points in (so those that were 0.0% before adding the save file were now (mostly) 15.0%, while those I already started upgrading (like Luck, recoil, accuracy, gun damage etc) retained my old values).
Adding your profile.sav merely corrected the two values when I tried that later (so I actually had the same number of levels and points).
So the first time I loaded your save file my other saves got their guardian points overriden, but not the rank (guardian RANK is saved in profile.sav along with changes to game settings like keybinds etc).
Though at this point I'm curious what would happen if I used ONLY the profile.sav and not the save. Would I have guardian rank 850 with 47 guardian points? Or would I get 803 unassigned guardian points to spend?
Well, whatever. I started over again, because story mode is still somewhat better than endlessly farming the same couple bosses on mayhem4. (especially when the meta for Amara is disgustingly clunky Spiritual Driver + Elemental Projector... It's a masochist simulator worse than Krieg used to be) So when I get Amara to 53 again I'll probably just switch to Fl4k or something. Amara would be fantastic for melee (hell she's female Brick with 8 fists!) if melee didn't have to use guns anyway and if melee could crit. Right now it's kinda almost as bad as gunmara.
