Preamble

I had survived only four half-hour sessions of Blade & Sorcery before, while simply trying to take my headset off and turn around, I twisted my knee and heard something pop, strain, squeal, and rip all at once, reverberating up my spine until it reached my brain and transformed from a symphony of twisting sinew and bubbling joint fluid into a loud curse word as I hit the floor.

This game is one that I, especially now, associate with horrible injuries. And so, in lieu of being able to walk around and get much of anything else done, I decided to take some creative inspiration from the upsetting noises my leg would continue making for two whole months, and started work on a small sound-replacer addon for Sectory. The project was called "had to hurt" or H2H at the time. Then I decided I wanted better feeling slashing, then stabbing, then bludgeoning, and so on and so forth.

Developing this mod has been an absolute blast, despite everything. This is the first large-scale project I have made For a specific game and then uploaded, and also the first large project of mine that makes significant use of self-recorded Foley, instead of salvaged samples and assets.

Turns out, if you mash up a bunch of semi-expired fruit and meat into an organic mass, freeze that mass, and then embed small wrenches into that mass, and then vigorously smack it all with a 12 oz. steel hammer, you get four things:

       1) A ruined pop filter
       2) Some very useful metal-hitting-meat samples
       3) An irredeemable and lingering smell reminiscent of vomit, if vomit could exist without having ever been vomited up
4) A condensed welt of cold, damp material that could only be less appealing to touch if it were radioactive

Features

- Near-comprehensive re-implementation of the games blade-on-flesh and other gore sounds,
with only a few tertiary exceptions which will come in later updates
(ideally).

- Greater variety of sound both within and between weapon classes, with minimal sharing between groups when possible.

- All sounds are implemented properly with functioning volume and pitch scaling curves that subtly alters weapon impacts to scale with the intensity of the hit (as in vanilla). Thrusts scale up pitch with intensity (to emulate speed), while strikes pitch down (to emulate power).

- Automatic integration for MMP, LMP, and KMP by Sushin (though these mods aren't Required); the Katanas, Falchions, and Rapiers from those packs are now properly mapped to the appropriate soundsets and will no longer all just make axe noises when used with UAO.

Compatibility

Note that any other mods which alter the vanilla game Effects (Effect_BladeOnFlesh, Effect_PenetrationFlesh, Effect_BladeStab in particular) may overwrite UAO's and cause the sounds to no longer play properly. Mods that change the game's blood particles usually do this.

Manifest

~251 Individual sounds total (about), including;

- (18) Sounds for weapon-on-weapon impacts. Most, but not all, go CLANG.
- (10) Sounds for strikes made with wooden objects (such as weapon handles).

- (13) Sounds for maces and axes damaging Plate Armor
