A collection of saves I made while working towards 100% in Black Mesa. Contains all the time consuming and tricky achievements, as well as several interesting points in the story.
- Permissions and credits
Black Mesa is a proper half-life remake and was a blast to play through. Highly recommend anyone who's a fan of the series to
give it a go. But if you are getting frustrated with some of the arduous achievements, don't worry. I got you.
These are all original saves that I made on my quest to 100%. Tried to get all of "those" achievements and spots where it would be good to have a checkpoint. Special thanks to Cynic 0055 on Steam for writing an excellent 100% guide. Check it out here.

BACKUP YOUR GAME SAVES!
Located in: 'steamapps\common\Black Mesa\bms'
Copy that 'save' folder and paste it somewhere safe. Then copy it again somewhere just to be sure.
To restore: Delete the 'save' folder in 'steamapps\common\Black Mesa\bms' and paste your backup there.
Note: It would be better to only backup/delete all the .sav and .tga files from 'save' if you know what you are doing. Otherwise stick to copying the entire folder.

Achievements are numbered in the order they would be obtained in game. There's an AIO folder with all of them in there for quick copy & pasting. Otherwise saves are individually labeled. Sadly, there's no way to make the save's name visible in game, only date/time.
To make this a bit easier you can open the console and type "load" followed by the save name. For example:

With all that out of the way, here is what you can find in this save collection:
Achievement - AIO
- All achievement related saves in one folder.
Achievement - Our Brains & Your Brawn (A01ourbrainsyourbrawn)
- Gather all personnel and walk them up the stairs.
- Wait a few seconds. If the headcrab jumps wrong: reload or reposition yourself.
Achievement - Ethically Questionable (A03ethicallyquestionable)
- Hit the button and fire the laser.
Achievement - Stealth Technology (A04stealthtechnology)
- Walk through the red door.
Achievement - Xen when (A05xenwhen)
- I saved this one a bit early. Stay where you load in and crouch so you won't get hit. Wait a bit to trigger the achievement. Intention was to also have enough time to spawn in the hat and throw it in the portal for 'Rare Specimen'. Guide on that here.
Achievement - The Plan, Unquestionably Ethical, Post-Mortem Interval (A06gonarchmultiachievements)
- This is a multi-achievement save. Here's how to get each:
- The Plan: Move the yellow gas canister to the housing on the right and press the green button.
- Unquestionably Ethical: Boost along some platforms on the left wall then drop down the hole.
- Post-Mortem Interval: Boost to the platform on the left with the scientist that's impaled on the crystals and interact with them.
Achievement - Doctor's Signature (A07doctorssignature)
- Run out and smack Gonarch about 5 times with the crowbar. No fear just do it.
Achievement - Anti-Matter Over Mind (A08antimatterovermind)
- Kill one of the controllers without killing a linked vortiguant. Fight starts shortly after load.
Achievement - Contest Propellant (A09contestpropellant)
- Run up the stairs and into the room with the pod.
Achievement - Black Mesa Decathlon Winner (A10decathlonwinner)
- I've included 2 quick saves with this. One right before the last jump and one during the last jump. Hopefully you can just load and get it. I don't know if that will work because you can't reload your game after the river load screen without voiding the achievement. You may actually have to run this yourself. But don't fret; The manual save is 2 steps from the loading screen and I'll link a video of how I got the achievement.
Achievement - PhD In Pacifism (A11phdpacifism)
- Hop on the jump pad. Achievement will trigger on the way up.
Achievement - Laser Immunization (A12laserimmunization)
- Exact same as PhD In Pacifism. Separate save because I messed up the first time and didn't notice, lol...
Achievement - Prolific Popper (A13prolificpopper)
- Shoot the last 5 Protozoans hovering around the central console thing.
Achievement - The Rarest Specimen, Pepperoni Precipitation (A14pizzahatending)
- Load in, wait and enjoy the hilarious cutscene.
- It's impossible to bring both items to the end legitimately. I spawned them both in at the Lambda Xen portal and threw them in. Then proceeded to move them all the way through Xen using ent_teleport because I dunno. Could have just spawned them in at the boss portal. I do unnecessary things for no reason sometimes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Misc - Silo D Ready (M01silodready)
- Right before you push the button to fire the rockets to torch the tentacle monster in Silo D. Cool story moment.
Misc - Satellite Launch (M02satellitelaunch)
- Right before you push the button to launch the satellite into orbit. Another cool story moment.
Misc - Approaching Xen Portal (M03approachingxenportal)
- In case you wanted more time in the Lambda Xen portal room. Loads in the hallway leading to the device.

Xen - Intro Split (X01introsplit)
- At the fork where you can go right to unlock 'Orbital Trajectory' or left to enter the normal way.
Xen - Start of Gonarch's Lair (X02startgonarchlair)
- Very beginning of Gonarch's Lair.
Xen - Gas Teleport (X03gasteleport)
- Secret chamber where you teleport the yellow gas canister to the boss room.
Xen - Mid Gonarch's Lair (X04midgonarchlair)
- Forget exactly where this is. Assuming about midway /heh
Xen - Post Gonarch Fight (X05postgonarchfight)
- Right after Gonarch has been downed.
Xen - Interloper Start (X06interloperstart)
- Slightly into the 'Interloper' chapter.
Xen - Near end of interloper (X07nearendinterloper)
- Near the end of 'Interloper' before the Tower.
Xen - The Tower (X08thetower)
- The massive ascending tower fight with controllers. Solid battle.
Xen - Nihilanth Portal with both items (X09nihilanthportal)
- Standing outside the end boss portal with both the purple hat and pizza.
