About this mod

This mod replaces the firing sound effects of PPC's, AC's and MG's, using MechWarrior 4 sound effects. It also adds beefier Gauss and LRM/SRM sounds. It is a conversion of Highwayleopards excellent mod 'Battletech Sound Replacement Pack' to the latest (and final) version of BattleTech, including all DLC. It is released with explicit permission.

Changelogs
This mod is almost entirely based on the original mod 'Battletech Sound Replacement Pack' by Highwayleopard, found here:

https://www.nexusmods.com/battletech/mods/37

Videos showcasing the new sound effects, can also be found on the page of the original mod, so none are included here. Also be sure to leave an endorsement over there, if you like this mod. Thanks for your great original work Highwayleopard.

DESCRIPTION:

Basically the Heavy Metal DLC added a bunch of weapons, that naturally do not play any sound effects when using the original mod, as it predates the DLC's. I only discovered this after a while in campaign gameplay, as I only picked up the DLC's recently. However, going back to the paper-thin original weapon sound effects was out of the question, after having enjoyed Highwayleopards wonderful mod.

So I updated the original mod to the newest BattleTech version, primarily for myself, however, lacking any documentation, it turned out to be quite some work, so I was thinking about sharing it with the community. I contacted Highwayleopard, who kindly granted me permission to do so.

I also replaced the Gauss firing sound effect with a BattleTech original sound, that is overriden by this mod anyway, giving it a sharp metallic crack, rather than the 'pew' sound it originally had. This is the only original work I did, everything else is just like the original mod. If you don't like the new Gauss, you can download the optional pack, named accordingly.

The added AC's from the Heavy Metal DLC (UAC's, LB-X AC's) peculiarly seem to use the sound files of the corresponding basic AC's anyway, so they work with the sounds from this mod. This is the case in the original game as well, so no variety should be lost.

Lasers are unchanged, as is the case with the original mod.

LIMITATIONS and ISSUES:

The Snub PPC and ER PPC use the standard PPC sound, to keep it in line with the technologically similar normal PPC's, in order not to sound vastly different. I'm not really sure if they have a different sound in the unmodded game anyway. It sounded very similar to me. The way the .bnk archive files are structured, you can't tell by the file names, so it's a lot of trial and error.

So far I haven't found any issues, and this being a rather straightforward sound replacer, I really don't expect any. Keeping my fingers crossed...

That being said, this mod has not been tested with any other mods introducing new weapons, ammunition types etc. etc... so it might conflict (although it really shouldn't, as long as they adress the same sound .bnk's), as well as any other mods altering sound effects. I don't have enough time and don't really care to test this.

INSTALLATION:

1. Download one of the .7z mod archives. You can only use one...

2. Enclosed are five .bnk files. First, back up the corresponding files in your

BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\Audio\GeneratedSoundBanks\Windows

folder. This step will allow you to revert to the old files, in case you don't like it or any problems occur. Since work on the BattleTech game is allegedly finished, there shouldn't be any more patches coming in, but who knows. It's important to make backups, whenever you directly modify the file structure of any program.

3. Replace the files in the folder with the ones from the mod archive.

You can replace all of the .bnk files separately. The AC's file contains the Gauss firing sounds as well, not by my design, but due to the game's file structure.
