About this mod
UPDATED FOR 1.8 This is the Sandman which was a home brewed mech back in the day. It' story is it was a Franken mech with the upper half of a Rifleman, and the lower half of a Shadowhawk by the Storm Raven's Mercenary Company as a field expedient fighting against Team Banzai's Blue Blazers battalion. Team Banzai did the rest. 4 versions included

A field emergency fielded by the Storm Ravens in 3041 so impressed Team Banzai and Doctor Banzai that Team Banzai bought the strom ravens contract and held them on retainer.. a very generous retainer for 1 year just to pick the brains of Senior Chief Mech Tech "Sandman" Nagasawa. with some assist from the Kressly Mech Works and Tharhes Industries a 55 ton high tech mech was born. Sporting the same mobility of the Phoenix Hawk but with twice again the firepower the Sandman went through several iterations. The version presented here is the SND-1a5e3 which is a throw back to the original load out of the SND-1
The mech is quite flexible and while not a true Omni mech the mech can be easily reconfigured with a different weapons mix. It is however restricted to energy weapons only as there simply is no addition space within the mech for carrying any sort of ammo supply for anything other than a self contained system of the support weapons class such as AMS mounts.
Special Note: The Mech is here also as a proof of concept of a more elegant way of handling "Internal heat sinks" in the vanilla game and is a proof of concept. Apparently you can adjust a mechs "native" heat sinking to reflect table top construction rules within the chassis file.
The SND-1 mounts a 339XL engine which has space internally for 13 heat sinks. By the rules of the computer game this gives the sandman a start up cooling capacity of 78 reflecting the use of double heat . Fully jump capable with a 180 meters range per jump the SND-1 is very mobile. The original Sandman mounted 3 large lasers and 2 mediums as does this version but of a slightly more advanced types. While not quite up to clan standards the sandman is quite capable of giving any clan mech a run for their c bills in any sort of close quarter fighting. The Sandman uses the same flip over arm arrangement as the Rifleman, Jagermech and Blackjack.. To make of for the loss of Melee punch power, the legs have been heavily reinforced and shock mounter to minimize damage to the Sandman when performing Death From Above with special "spurs" built onto the legs and feet to cause additional damage to any mech on the receiving end of a Sandman in jump. (*weak melee, frightening DFA!*) a total of 6 energy hardpoints and a whopping 10 support hardpoints are available but it will prove impossible to use all of them, just most of them.
The mech is very very very close to tabletop rules within the concessions and limitations of the game engine. This mechs stats were drawn up 20 years ago. Enjoy!
And special thanks to Colo.. without your Rifleman IIC I wouldn't have a mech to represent this beast, and to all the modding community. I know I chime in now and again so maybe this will prove to you all that I am indeed a most serious gamer after all! Happy Hunting! ANd as soon as I get this uploaded.. imma go pass out!
Modtech, is required and Mech resizer is recommended. resize values are in the chassis file if you have resizer installed, but its not essential. .chassis and hardpoint files included so for those with minimalist installs the CAC is not required.
This is not the Sandman's first appearance in a mod either. I do believe that my original mashup that I did for Mechwarrior II mercenaries is still there in the files section at Sarna.net for use with NAIS and Mechwarrior II Mercenaries.
