The Roughneck Is Here!
Now that the Redux mechs of mine are finished, it was time to turn to a new mech. Unfortunately, there's almost nothing left from MWO for me to do since I don't do Clan mechs. This is about it, honestly, so here it is, the Roughneck! It's not a canon design from the tabletop but it fits into HBS BT nicely, being almost entirely introtech like the rest of the game. It also has a nice aesthetic and is generally just sort of fun to fiddle with. I like it, I hope you guys do too.

The Nitty-Gritty
The Roughneck is a 65 ton heavy mech that comes in 4 variants. All of them have reasonable heavy mech speeds, all of them have reasonably good armor, and msot of them have fairly unconventional loadouts. The Roughneck-1A is the base variant and carries an AC/10, a SRM 4, a Small Laser, and a trio of Machine Guns. All the weapons have reasonable ammo except the MGs which will run through their 1.5 tons quickly under sustained fire. The Roughneck-1B is the second variant and carries an AC/5, a pair of SRM 6s, a pair of MGs, and the head-mounted Small Laser of the -1A. Everything has plenty of ammo to boot. The Roughneck-1C, the third variant, is similar to the -1B in that it carries the same AC/5, SRM 6s, and MGs, but replaces the Small Laser and a lot of the ammo of the -1B with a LRM 10 and a ton of ammo. Reduced ammo counts make the mech a little dicey in longer engagments. Finally, the Roughneck-3A is a massive departure from the other Roughnecks, being an all energy loadout with a pair of PPCs, 4 Medium Lasers, and the traditional head Small Laser. The -3A is powered by a bevy of Double Heat Sinks.

Requirements
The Roughneck is a ModTek mod, so you will need ModTek. You can find it here: ModTek. However, the Roughneck comes in two versions, one of which requires an additional mod to work. The Roughneck comes in a vanilla version for the vanilla game and comes in a MechEngineer version for those players who are using MechEngineer (if you're not sure which one you're using, check the photos above to see what a MechEngineer MechBay looks like, if your MechBay looks different then you want the vanilla mod).

Bugs and Quirks
As a mech mesh ported from MechWarrior Online, the model isn't perfect and has a few minor issues. However, thanks to the process we have been using, there are far fewer issues than my other mechs have, especially better than its predecessor.
  • Texturing is still not perfect, it is a little shiny and bright in places, if you don't like it, use dark colors, they help a great deal.
  • Only the following weapons appear on the Roughneck: Laser eh1/2, PPC eh1, MG bh1, AC5 bh1/2, Gauss bh1/2, LRM10/SRM6 mh1 (left arm); Laser/Flamer/PPC eh1/2, LRM10/SRM6 mh1/2 (left torso); Laser/PPC eh1, LRM10/SRM6 mh1, MG bh1/2 (right arm); Laser/PPC/Flamer eh1/2, MG/Gauss bh1/2, AC10 bh1, LRM10/SRM6 mh1 (right torso); Laser eh1 (head)
  • There is no canon record sheet for the Roughneck, so vanilla tonnages are done by pure math and are quite probably off somewhat. If you find some tonnage issues, let me know via the comments.

SPECIAL BONUS: THE LOADER KING IS HERE!
A friend on Discord asked me to put together a Loader King variant of the Roughneck. The LK is the industrialmech that the Roughneck was built off of and carries a special crane in the right torso, which this model does have (the crane isn't animated, sorry, there's limitations to what I can do). It's honestly pretty terrible but it was a request and is fun to look at. Enjoy this one.

The Future
There aren't any IS MWO mechs left to do that are released (the Corsair and the Marauder II are coming but aren't out yet). I do think I have an idea for what to do next though.

Special Mention
GentlePayload and Colobos remain great friends and great sources of aid and advice. Thanks, to both of you. Extra thanks to Colo for the cockpit coloring.
