About this mod

Ever wondered why your elite King's Guard has the stats of an, admittedly brave, militiaman, even after he has recovered from his ordeal, why he never seems to have any traits, and why a man who served long dead Kings can look so young? Wonder no more with this mod, and ensure your next King's Guard can cut through men like cake.

UPDATED FOR BLAZING DESERTS.

The King's Guard events is a really nice easter egg added with the Warriors of the North DLC. Unfortunately the brother it eventually gives you, whilst certainly not bad, is not at all the legendary fighter the event text suggests he should be: Ser Barristan he is not. His stats, once recovered, are a little better than the Militia background (for three times the daily cost), but significantly worse than most high tier backgrounds. Moreover he never has any traits. Given that this is a rare event that can only happen once per campaign (unless you manage to keep a campaign running for 2740 in game years), and you'll have to babysit a Cripple for at least 30 days after the first event before you get the payoff, this didn't seem right. Hence this mod.

Here are the changes:
  • I adjusted the starting attributes that the Cripple version of the King's Guard can roll, as well as the bonuses he can get when he recovers. His recovered version has the following attribute ranges: Hitpoints 55-65, Fatigue 95-105, Resolve 45-55, Initiative 100-110, Melee Skill 62-67, Ranged Skill 32-42, Melee Defence 7-12, Ranged Defence 7-12.
  • I made it so that his talent starts are semi-random. Specifically he'll either have three stars in Melee Skill and two stars in Melee Defence, or two stars in Melee Skill and three stars in Melee Defence (50-50); and his final talent will either be one star in Fatigue, two stars in Fatigue, one star in Hitpoints or two stars in Hitpoints (25-25-25-25).
  • I did some tinkering under the hood to allow him to get Traits, and to exclude most really bad traits from appearing.
  • I made it so that he always starts with grey hair (the events say that the "kings of these lands have long since fallen").

Balance wise we have a brother with stats comparable to something like a Sellsword, though with guaranteed great Talent stars, for 30 crowns per day base cost. This is certainly a very powerful brother, but bear in mind the rareness of the event and the time it takes for him to recover (at least 30 days, but probably quite a bit more given the way the event manager works in Battle Brothers).

I've also created an alternative version of the mod that makes both events more likely to fire. They're still fairly rare events, but you should be able to more reliably get them in a standard length campaign.
