Vortex Support added: Sekiro, Resident Evil 2 (2019), and more!

Good news for our Sekiro, Resident Evil 2 (2019), Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines, Dawn of Man, and Surviving Mars communities!

As of version 0.18.5, our new mod manager Vortex now supports modding for all of the above games meaning you can use Vortex to mod 59 different games total.

Moreover, multi-variant mods - that’s mods that give you multiple options, such as different colours for armour replacers etc. - for many games, including the above (with the exception of Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines), can make use of mod installers when used together with Vortex.

In a nutshell, mod installers add a convenient menu to the mod installation that allows you to pick and choose the options you want. This is convenient for users, but also for mod authors because it means that you will only need to pack and maintain one file on your mod page, rather than providing, maintaining, and updating many different options.

Mod installers are a viable option for many different games: from most Bethesda games (The Elder Scrolls and Fallout) to Monster Hunter: World, Sekiro, or Resident Evil 2 (2019).

For anyone who is interested in making their own mod installers, we have written up a brief wiki article covering the creation process which is simplified thanks to a community-made tool.

    i can use vortex for every game but satan only know why i can't use it for Dragons dogma , always that game_main.arc problem it's killing me

    Well ok, so when i open vortex i get the download prompt and click on it in Vortex...Nothing happens..zero, nadda..what gives??

    Now you just need to let me sort my load order manually and rename any mod whatever I want in any category. Until those basic features that have been in NMM for years are part of this, I see no reason to switch. I mean no disrespect and I know how much hard work this must be, but these are basic things we already had and they seem to be things left out only out of spite and not demand or practicality imho.

      you can sort your load order manually, you can even put in new categories and sort where you want those categories to load compared to the other ones. This is just a matter of learning how you need to do it in vortex.

      I understand how to do it in Vortex, I just see no reason to add multiple steps instead of just letting me slide the thing where I want it. Speaking in engineering terms, development is supposed to make tasks easier, not more complex. It's nice to have the deeper functionality of Vortex system, but there's no reason not to just let us slide the things around as we do in NMM. Don't get me wrong, the manual load order thing I can live with, the renaming thing I can't. I have used my own categories through changing the mod name for years so I can easily find what I'm looking for. I'm way too OCD to change that now. I appreciate the response though and I do experiment with Vortex from time to time hoping these features will get in someday. Cheers!

      It won't happen, this has been asked since day one, and as you can see the developers don't care and find it unneeded.

      You just need to break the bad habits old mod managers have enforced for years. Vortex makes things easier by taking the obsessive load orders away from you. You can use groups to tweak things and rules if you want to be granular but if you work with Vortex rather than against it, the experience is easier overall.

      You can add/rename categories yourself too, here's the documentation about it https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Category_Management

      And if you double click on a mod you can rename it inside Vortex.

      Because LOOT is integrated into Vortex, adjustments to plugin order are rarely needed. When they are needed, just make an appropriate LOOT group assignment.

      I've used Vortex for more than a year to manage Fallout 3, Fallout NV, Fallout 4, Skyrim SE, and Enderal. During that time I've had to make only five plugin adjustments, three of which turned out to be unnecessary after all

      I came to Vortex from a "drag and drop" mod management environment that soaked up a lot of my time. Vortex has relieved me of that chore and allowed me to spend more time with my gaming. I would call that "making tasks easier."

      With all due respect, not a single thing in Vortex is easier than NMM. Being able to tweak something manually instead of relying on automated software to do it isn't a "bad habit" and LOOT isn't always correct. Also, I don't care at all about groups, or the ability to rename them. I've never used groups in any mod manager and again it's easier to just rename the mod. I rename mods to auto sort them without the need of categories. For example in Fallout 4 take the mod "Atomic Radio". I download it and rename it "audio - radio - Atomic Radio". I don't need to open and close categories, I don't need to search for anything, I just go right to audio - radio - and uninstall/install my mod. Manual load order isn't coming and I've accepted this, but not being able to simply rename our mods in the mods category is silly to me. And why do we have "downloads", "mods" and "plugins" categories? It takes what used to exist on one page and splits it into 3. That makes no sense to me and requires far more time navigating the panels. Look I understand the hard work that goes into software development as that's what I do for a living now, but I also understand that these are very requested features and I see no reason why they can't be a part of Vortex other than stubbornness. I have nothing but respect for the people that run Nexus and the modders on it, but I just don't see a reason to switch to a more complicated piece of software that lacks features I want when NMM Community already exists. It's not a big deal and I probably just shouldn't have posted anything.

      Hmm, you do seem to have an unconventional workflow for modding, but it illustrate my point about renaming mods, here's a short animation:

      Sorry, I'm probably being a moron. I'm in the mods tab and clicking left and right on the mod I've downloaded and I don't get that window where I can change the name. EDIT: so okay, I double click the mod to get to the rename part. Awesome, I'm liking it, but you should probably make that clear in a tutorial video. I could have sworn we couldn't change the name in the mods tab before. Was I wrong the whole time? If I could make one suggestion, when I right click on the mod, an option to rename, or bring up the panel where I can, would make more sense. Double clicking it makes me automatically think I'm installing it. Am I right on this, or am I f'ing it up even more? If I can rename my mods in the "MODS" tab, I'll switch tomorrow. Apologies if I've had that wrong the whole time.

      The renaming feature has been in Vortex ever since it was released as beta. Consult the Vortex Knowledge Base for more information about the Mod Details Pane. Also, on the mods page, you may want to go to settings and toggle all columns, if you have not already done so. Then start pushing and pulling on everything you can find to see what happens. That's what I did, and I discovered a number of features that are not yet fully described in the Knowledge Base.

      Ah, I see, thanks for the info. I hear Gopher is getting ready to do another series on Vortex. Hopefully that will be more comprehensive. One thing I'm almost certain about is that the renaming feature wasn't in there from the start because I even asked about it when I first started messing with it. I think when Vortex started you could rename mods only in the downloads tab, which doesn't do much good for my purposes, but I'm willing to admit I'm probably wrong about that. I guess my only complaint moving forward about Vortex is how it doesn't have a proper tutorial for knobs like me.

    Would it be possible to stop the "X game added" notifications? I don't care about many of the games. Those I do care about I have set as favorites.
