So, I'm very late to the Banished party, but last month T3HFish streamed the game and encouraged me to get it. Not to mention it was on sale for like thirty cents, so I went ahead and picked up a copy, and have very much been enjoying myself even if I'm utterly terrible at it.
But the game was made by a single person, and while the simulation and village building are spotless, the graphics could use a bit of a tune up, as everything comes off as more than a little blurry to me, but there's a lot of detail in the models to sharpen up, especially once the colours are made more vibrant. So I'm officially presenting my Reshade to change the graphics up to look better.
If you encounter visual errors, please go to your Reshade folder, and locate McFX.cfg and open it (It can be opened with any texct editor, such as Notepad++). Locate the line "#define USE_AMBIENTOCCLUSION 1" and change the 1 to a 0 so that it looks like "#define USE_AMBIENTOCCLUSION 0". Save the file. This has seemed to fix almost all issues in the game, including water-shadows. I enjoy the way AO looks in-game, so I choose to keep it in-spite of the visual errors, but if you encounter any and wish to be rid of them, this should fix it.
To install, please open the .zip file, and drag all of the files included into your Banished Folder. For me, this is D:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Banished. This is the folder that includes the game's .exe file. For Steam users this should be Application-steam-x64.exe OR pplication-steam-x32.exe.
The .exe seems to vary based on where you got the game, with Steam users having a different .exe from DRM free sources such as GOG.com. However, this will always be the root folder of your Banished game, and will include the only .exe file(s) in the game's folders.
