About this mod
Integrates hug interactions into the dialogue for each companion, depending on approval and certain story moments. Also includes a version where you can hug them any time, not dependent on approval or most other tests, right from when you recruit them.

Hi, a note: the compatibility patch method I was working on has some bugs I can't seem to work out, and combining my mods for compatibility might take a little bit. Thank you very much again for your continued patience!
HI! Back at it again with another dialogue mod. This time, I've added a hug interaction straight to each companion's dialogue, for anyone who wants an immersive hug option.
The hug interaction has voice lines for all ten companions, before and after the hug, is available for all bodytypes and races, and can be used outside of a romance. (Also, Boo is there for Minsc's hug!! πΉ)
The hug animations themselves are from the epilogue, but I've made edits to camera angles, transitions, and expressions for a good portion of the cinematics, so they're not exactly the same as the epilogue hugs. The voice lines are vanilla lines that have been taken both from less common scenes and dialogue choices, and also from normally inaccessible debug/coverage lines each character has, that were recorded in case they couldn't bring the voice actors back for any reason (according to the devnotes for the lines!)
I've uploaded a demo video of each companion's hug here if you'd like to take a look. All available voice lines have been included in the video! (Most characters just have one line before and after the hug at the moment, but Karlach has three randomized lines before, and Minsc has two randomized lines after.)
The option is currently only available for companions! I am thinking about adding it for some other characters, though. (I'm looking at you, Barcus Wroot ππ«) But this is never going to be a mod that'll add hug options for everyone; it was always meant to just add an immersive dialogue option to a small selection of characters, starting with the companions.
At the very least, this mod adds the option for your favorite traveling companions. So go strike up a conversation, and give your buddies a hug for me, oki? πΌπ·ππ«
The mod comes in two versions:
Hug Your Companions: The default version. Tests for approval, and checks whether certain story moments have happened to enable and disable the hug interaction. These are different for each companion, and a full list of conditions the hugs can be triggered or disabled under can be found in the Articles section for the mod.
Hug Your Companions - Free For All: Extremely minimal tests version. Doesn't test for approval, Karlach's heart, or most of the other conditions that'll disable the interaction. It has, however, still been disabled for Astarion if you got either of the "toxic breakup" options for him in Act 2, i.e. [spoilers] if you made him drink Araj Oblodra's blood, or pressured him during his Act 2 romance scene, resulting in an automatic breakup. It has also been disabled if you made him drink Araj's blood, generally, both in a romance and outside of one. [end spoilers] This applies to the regular version of the mod as well.
Neither version of the mod will enable the hug for Ascended Astarion. I am not going to enable it for himβplease don't ask. There are other mods available that let you hug AA. Please use those instead.
Compatibility:
This mod is a bit greedy when it comes to the characters' dialogue files.
It overrides all of the companions' InParty dialogue files except Lae'zel's, and will conflict with any mods that override those files.
(Lae'zel is an exception; the mod overrides her DefaultQuestionBank file, not her InParty dialogue file.)

The mod also overrides the corresponding Dialog Assets entries for these dialogue files, and will conflict with other mods editing those resources. It only edits the Dialog Assets and DialogsBinary files for the characters, though! Edits of the timeline and scene files for the characters' InParty dialogue might still be compatible. And because of the way the mod is configured, it is a bit more feasible to make compatibility patches for other dialogue mods. And, speaking of:
This mod is not compatible on its own with my mods Brightest Star - A New Act 3 Romance Scene For Wyllο»Ώ and Astarion Romance Reactions Fixed, but I'm currently working on compatibility patches for both, which should hopefully be ready soon!
Install with BG3 Mod Manager! This mod has its own files, and isn't just an override, so it needs to be placed in your mod load order.
Only install the default version or the Free For All version, NOT both.
Uninstall by deleting the mod from your mod folder. The mod should be safe to uninstall mid-playthrough, but it needs to be removed entirely from your mod folder in order to not affect the game!
While the mod does have its own files, it still overrides existing files, and will still affect your game if it's in your mod folder.
Known Issues:
- The animation for Gale's reaction after the hug jumps a little towards the end. This is only visible if you're playing a gnome or a halfling, but it unfortunately is still visible for them, and I've not found a way to fix it yet.
- Karlach's hug animation for short characters is. Strange. It's her vanilla hug animation from the epilogue, but I'm probably going to try and find an alternative at some point π ...
- Origin Karlach currently doesn't glow blue when hugging other characters (I need to add unique cinematics to each timeline just for her to do so, and I'll probably do so in the future, but I'm ngl I need a little break from this mod first)
- Minsc's hug animation was taken from the epilogue hug he was given in Patch 7, but the cinematics for it were also a bit strange, especially for Dragonborn and other strong bodytypes. I fixed it up as best I could, but I might be making more tweaks in the future.
- If you hug Lae'zel outside of camp, the characters behind you will disappear before the camera changes for her voice line. (The camera switches a split second too late atm, making the hiding of those characters visible onscreen. I'm not entirely sure why this happens, but I have ideas for a few possible fixes I'm going to try to implement.)
- The lighting for Halsin and Karlach's hugs are slightly different from their voice lines, and the lighting for it gets brighter the darker the area you're standing in is. I do not know why this happens and it's driving me nuts (it's not noticeable in most areas I tested the interaction in, but still ghfjkdvbjfk Moonrise Towers in particular gets kinda funky lighting for Halsin, and it's more noticable in the Elfsong for Karlach, although most other areas seem to be fine).
- I still need to add the interaction to the endgame, and will be doing so in the future! The dialogue files each character has in the endgame is different from their regular InParty dialogue files, and this mod currently does not add the interaction to them. (I'll be honest, this mod took forever to make and I'm pretty exhausted by it, so I need a bit of a break before adding it to the endgame. I also don't feel like all the voice lines are entirely appropriate for the endgame, and I'm still trying to decide whether I want to find new voice lines, keep the ones I have already, or remove the voice lines entirely for it.)
- I'm also planning on adding the hugs to the epilogue party for characters who don't already have hugs.
- I'm going to be adding more voice lines for each character! I did struggle with some characters to find appropriate platonic lines, though, so this might not be possible for some characters. (Somehow Gale was the hardest out of everyone, and I really tried to find cute platonic ones for him π I was in the trenches trying to find good options my g-d. I did eventually come up with ones that felt in-character at least, though, and honestly his reaction lines ended up being my favorites bghfjkjgbgfjd But I'm not sure if I'd be able to find other suitable lines for him im ngl π )
- All the BT2 companions and all the BT1 companions share very similar hug cinematics. Some small tweaks have been made here and there, but I'm considering making more edits to camera angles/etc to make them more distinct. Halsin, Minsc, and Karlach all have their own unique cinematics, that aren't shared with any other characters, and I'd like to make the cinematics for the other characters more unique, too.
- I do want to add the option to some other characters as well. I'm currently thinking of adding the option to Barcus Wroot and Alfira at the very least, and giving a unique option for Wyll to hug Ulder after they've reconciled, but beyond that I'm not sure. Feel free to request characters, but I can't guarantee I'll actually add the option for them.
