Description

This mod rework the katana. It's now a unique finesse weapon that you can upgrade with the help of certain old blacksmith's anvil. It growns from common to legendary, earning new powers in each step. As the upgrades are tied to progress in the game, it will feel naturally and you'll have (hopefully!) a weapon in line with your progress.

Upgrading make it powerful (But still, not OP and try to keep game balance). That power comes with a cost (sorry, I like balanced), for each upgrade you need to feed it a unique base game magic item, that will be lost forever. Oh, I should mention that i choose particulary powerful items. It isn't Gale, that can eat anything.

Before people start yelling at me for destroy they'll hard earned rewards, fear not. There's an optional "friendly" file that will upgrade the katana but not destroy the item. The weapon progresion will feels natural all the same, as you still needs to get the item and combine it at the anvil, but it will be free.

And of course, I also add a file that add the items to the tutorial chest. If you install the mod midgame can also use it to get the anvil and the katana version they need to start the progress, if they are no longer available in your game.

To start your journie buy the "Old Katana" from Arron at the grove. It's a shit weapon at the moment.

To improved it look for Giniel's anvil and the neccesary magic item (see location below for the item list). Use combine option with the anvil, place katana in firts slot, item in second and combine.

Very Important warning! Always put katana in firts slot (left) and item on second (right) (see screenshot). If you don't do it that way you may loose your katana, loose your item even with the friendly version and all other kinds of weird results (like duplicate katanas and no items, no improvement at all, use your imagination...)

From 1.3 main and 1.2.1 for friendly this is fixed 

Location

For the initial katana and the anvil:

-Old Katana: Sold by Arron at the grove. A long rest may be needed for it to appear after install the mod.
Note that old katana is tag as unique, so i don't clutter Arron inventory with a useless weapon. If you install the tutorial chest addon the old katana will be at Arron or in the tutorial chest, depending if you firts visit Arron or summon the tutorial chest.

-Giniel's Anvil: Blacksmith basament in Blighted Village. The same place where you forge the sussur weapon. In the chest where the steelforged shortsword is.

The following items are needed for each upgrade, I added wiki links for the game items in case you don't know what or where they are:

-Elven Katana: Old Katana + Gloves of Power

-Reforged Katana: Elven Katana + Amulet of Misty Step

-Infused Katana: Reforged Katana + Soulbreaker Greatsword

-Anointed Katana: Infused Katana + Killer's Sweetheart

-Giniel's Stormblade: Anointed Katana + Scroll of Artristy of War (This last upgrade will also consume Giniel's Anvil as it's no longer useful and feels thematic XD)


Customization

You can change between Versatile and No Versatile versions using the Elven Smithing Tool (not included, separate download. Follow the link). Just use the tool on a weapon to turn it non versatile, use it another time if you want it to be versatile again.

Upgrading the Katana from the No Versatile version will properly gives you the next tier No Versatile version of it.

Note: Non Versatile is only useful for characters with Duel without shield proficiency (sword bard only, I think) or for RPG purposes. In all other cases is better either 2H or 1H with shield.

From 1.3 issues with customized equipped items should be solved, but even when you customized an equipped item it will be unequiped anyway.

Installation

BG3 Mod Manager is recommended.

Use either the Vortex Mod Manager or the BG3 Mod Manager and install this mod.

Make sure you deploy your mods if using Vortex or export the mod list if using BG3 Mod Manager.

For Update just overwrite old version pak with the new one. If you want to be 100% sure everything goes smoothly do the following:
-Remove equiped weapons from this mod from your characters (you can leave them in the inventory, no need to store them), save your game and exit.
-Install the new version (just overwrite old one).
-Load, you can reequip your weapons as you wish.
As I said, nothing of this should be needed, I update like hundreds of times while testing just overwritten the old file. But the above proccess should be the correct one to update items mods.

Uninstallation should be fine. If you want to be 100% sure everything goes smoothly use a mod that create a temporary container, like tutorial chest summoning. Place items in it and wait for it to vanish into the void with them. Save, exist and remove the mod. Remember to deploy/export after uninstalling mods

Optional

The friendly optional file don't consume your magic items when upgrade the katana. Main file is still needed and you need to load this one after the main file (ie: physically below it on the list).

If you want the items to appear in the tutorial chest use: Elven Weaponry - Tutorial Chest. Load it after all main files from weaponry series.
This file can also be use to acces Giniel's Anvil and old Katana versions if they are no longer available in your game.
