Oath of Glory - Paladin Subclass
Paladins who take the Oath of Glory believe they and their companions are destined to achieve glory through deeds of heroism. They train diligently and encourage their companions so they're all ready when destiny calls. Published in both the Mythic Odysseys of Theros and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything sourcebooks, the Oath of Glory is a paladin subclass based on heroes from Greek myth who have been blessed by the gods. In the tabletop game, this subclass is all about improving the Paladin's physical skills, imbuing them with increased strength and speed that allows them to carry out heroic deeds in pursuit of glory. For more information, see either of the sourcebooks above or visit this link.

Full disclosure - this is my first endeavor into modding BG3. I really enjoy the flavor and abilities of the Oath of Glory, so much so that I learned to mod so I could bring the class into the game as faithfully as I could. That being said, please let me know if there are any bugs or ways you think the mod could be improved!

Class Features

Level 1 - Oath Tenets and Oathbreaking - The tenets of the Oath of Glory drive a paladin to attempt heroics that might one day shine in legend.

  • Actions over Words. Strive to be known by glorious deeds, not words.
  • Challenges Are but Tests. Face hardships with courage, and encourage your allies to face them with you.
  • Hone the Body. Like raw stone, your body must be worked so its potential can be realized.
  • Discipline the Soul. You must marshal the discipline to overcome failings within yourself that threaten to dim the glory of you and your friends.
Implementation Notes: While these are just the flavor of the subclass, it is important to note that I tagged this subclass so it should have the same oath breaking conditions as Devotion paladins. For now, the dialogue options will be noted as Devotion paladins, too.

Level 1 - Mighty Deeds - You can use your Channel Oath as a bonus action to invoke the gods to guide your movements. For 2 turns, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20, and enemies have Disadvantage on Opportunity Attacks against you.
Implementation Notes: In BG3, Larian opted to give paladins an additional Channel Oath option at Level 1, probably due to paladin subclasses not having any features between levels 7 and 12.  I wanted to follow the same patterns for balance, and luckily an early version of the Oath of Glory (Heroism) had a Channel Divinity that increased the critical hit chance for the paladin. To match the other Level 1 options from other paladin subclasses, I made the duration 2 turns. Since a 5% critical bonus for two turns felt like a small buff on its own, I added disadvantage on opportunity attacks as a flavorful addition that adds to mobility and makes it easier to run through enemies to get a hit in on the biggest threat or to save an ally!

Level 3 - Oath Spells - You gain the following Oath spells at the levels listed.  These spells are always prepared.

  • Level 3 - Guiding Bolt, Heroism
  • Level 5 - Enhance Ability, Magic Weapon
  • Level 9 - Haste, Protection from Energy

Level 3 - Peerless Athlete - As a bonus action, you can use your Channel Oath to augment your athleticism. For the next 10 turns, you add +2 to your Strength score and you have advantage on Strength (Athletics) and Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks; you can carry, push, drag, and lift twice as much weight as normal; and the distance of your long and high jumps increases by 10 feet.
Implementation Notes: This is implemented as in 5e, with the exception of the +2 to Strength score.  I included this bonus because in 5e, this feature makes the Oath of Glory a very effective grappler, and is key to one of the identities of the class. With no Grapple action in the game as yet, I added the bonus to strength to allow Oath of Glory paladins to throw Medium creatures and heavier things earlier into the game than other strength-based classes, while also providing a slight boost to damage. I thought this preserved that class identity as a good grappler without straying too far from the original feature.

Level 3 - Inspiring Smite - Immediately after you deal damage to a creature with your Divine Smite feature, you can use your Channel Oath as a bonus action and distribute temporary hit points to all allies withing 30 feet of you. The total number of temporary hit points equals your Charisma Modifier + your level in this class.
Implementation NotesWhen you use Divine Smite, you will unlock Inspiring Smite  in the hotbar as a bonus action, assuming you still have a use of Channel Oath. In 5e, the total temporary HP is 2d8 + Paladin level spread out amongst your allies however you would like.  I could not find a way for the player to be able to choose exactly how many HP go to which ally, so I lowered the total amount and made it apply to all allies instead.

Level 7 - Aura of Alacrity - You emanate an aura that fills you and your companions with supernatural speed, allowing you to race across a battlefield in formation. Your walking speed increases by 10 feet. In addition, if you aren't incapacitated, the walking speed of any ally who starts their turn within 5 feet of you increases by 10 feet until the end of that turn.
Implementation Notes: This works as in 5e.

Future Versions

  • Level 15 and 20 Features - I am working on implementing the subclass features up through Level 20 (Glorious Defense and Living Legend). I don't use a Level 20 mod myself as of yet, but when I do I will test those features to ensure they are functional and release an update that includes them.
  • Custom Equipment - For now, when selected in Character Creation the subclass comes equipped with a Breastplate as armor.  I don't have a lot of confidence in my visual modding ability, but I am looking to make custom subclass armor like the other paladin classes have. If you are good at that type of thing and want to help me add custom Scale Mail of Glory, please reach out!
  • Class Icon - I have a class icon made (see top of mod page), but do not yet have it implemented to work alongside other class icons using ImprovedUI Assets. Until I do that, the default subclass icon from the Compatibility Framework will appear.
  • Bugfixes and QOL - as I said earlier, please let me know if there are any aspects of the mod that don't function as they should, and I will try to get them fixed as soon as I can! Also, if additional mods come out that make the implementation of the class features better (for example, a recently-released grapple framework), I may release changes that work better with those in mind.
