Did you ever wish Fighting Styles covered a few more specific niches? They're a defining aspect in the Fighter life, but in the end, the Fighters of fiction -- fencers, gladiators, strongmen -- are a bit more varied than the game sometimes encourages.

This is an adaptation of some LaserLlama Fighting Styles, intended to support a few more character archetypes and give a few more tools to certain weapon types. They vary in power, but hopefully should give life to a few more fantasies out there.

Should be compatibile with any other mods, though if dealing with a class/subclass that has Fighting Styles, they may or may not pick up some of the added stuff depending on how the modmaker's set them up. If you like any of my mods and want to show some extra support, I've set up a tip jar here:

Added Fighting Styles

  • Arcane Warrior: You enhance your martial might with some basic spellcasting. You know the cantrips Blade Ward and Fire Bolt, using Intelligence as their spellcasting stat.
    • Available to Fighters.
    • I went back-and-forth on what exact Wizard cantrips to give you, deciding that Larian's current Booming Blade was a bit too strong for a Fighting Style. Feedback is welcome here; I worried these two would feel too situational.
  • Bardic Warrior: You are a skald, both poet and combatant. You know some minor Bardic magic, and can cast the Friends and Minor Illusion cantrips.
    • Available to Fighters and College of Swords Bards.
  • Berserkergang: You can enter a state of reckless abandon. Once per turn you can give yourself advantage on a single melee weapon attack, but doing so will reduce your AC by 2 until your next turn.
    • Available to Fighters, Paladins and Rangers.
  • Classical Swordplay: While wielding a single Finesse weapon and no other melee weapon, and not wearing heavy armour or a shield, you gain a +2 to your melee attack rolls and a +1 to your AC.
    • Available to Fighters, Paladins, and College of Swords Bards.
  • Featherweight Fighting: While wielding only Light weapons, your movement speed increases by 3m. If you're not wearing medium or heavy armour, these weapons also do +1 damage.
    • Available to Fighters, Rangers, and College of Swords Bards.
  • Heavyweight Fighting: While using a Two-Handed melee weapon or a Heavy Crossbow, you can use the weight of the weapon to roll Shoves with advantage, and these weapons do +1 damage.
    • Available to Fighters and Paladins.
  • Improvised Fighting: Once per turn when you make an improvised melee attack, or throw something that lacks the Thrown property, you can roll the damage dice twice and take the higher result
    • Available to Fighters.
  • Melee Marksman: When one hostile creature is within 1.5m of you, you do not have disadvantage when making ranged weapon attacks against them. After making a ranged weapon attack while within 1.5m of your target, you can bash them with your ranged weapon as a bonus action, dealing 1d4+Strength bludgeoning damage.
    • Available to Fighters and Rangers.
  • Pit Fighting: Tridents do +1 damage, and when you have a hand free, you have a special Net attack you can use to restrain your foes. These net attacks are usually made with disadvantage, but a successfully ensnared foe is easy pickings for the rest of the party.
    • Available to Fighters.
    • In the tabletop, this would buff nets a bit more. I've reduced it because nets have gone from a standard weapon to something only you can do. Feel free to give me feedback on how it feels.
  • Shield Warrior: You can treat your shield as a melee weapon, dealing 2d4+Strength damage. If you're not wielding a second melee weapon alongside it, your shield's damage increases by 1 and you gain +1 AC.
    • Available to Fighters and Paladins.
  • Strongbow: You can use Strength instead of Dexterity for the attack and damage rolls of shortbows and longbows.
    • Available to Fighters, Paladins, and Rangers.

This is an adaptation of some of LaserLlama's homebrew Fighting Styles, which can be found online here: https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-M0i_wbRAX8qAz1OIjbF

The mod also uses a few bonus Fighting Styles and ideas from some other LaserLama documents, such as their Alternate Multiclassing and Alternate Fighter.

I sent LaserLlama a DM about porting their free content, and got the reponse that it was alright so long as I provided credit and a link. You can see more of LL's content on their Reddit, GM Binder or Patreon.
