About this mod

This is a homebrew subclass that I made because I wanted an alternative to Tempest Domain, and I really like psychic abilities. I also just wanted to play as a little Duergar mind freak.

Cleric Level 1: Tasha's Hideous Laughter, Dissonant Whispers, *Unsettling Thoughts

*Unsettling Thoughts is a homebrew spell that I created. It's similar to Dissonant Whispers but causes the Flee Condition on a failed save instead of the Frightened Condition.

Cleric Level 3: Crown of Madness, Hold Person

Cleric Level 5: Hunger of Hadar, Fear

Cleric Level 7: Evard's Black Tentacles, Phantasmal Killer

Cleric Level 9: Dominate Person, Planar Binding



Level 1.


You have proficiency with heavy armor and martial weapons.

Unsettling Thoughts: You can cast Unsettling Thoughts once per short rest without expending a spell slot. For some reason it's highlighted in red, and it will say that you already know it. Please disregard this. Everything will be fine after you level up.

Distressing Retribution: When a creature within 4.5m hits you with an attack, use your reaction to blast them with negative psychic energy and possibly frighten them. This has unlimited uses similar to the Tempest Domain reaction. Deals 2d8 psychic damage and applies Frightened for one turn on a failed Wisdom Saving Throw. Deals half damage and doesn't apply Frightened on a successful saving throw. 



Level 2.

Schismatize Amygdalae: Expend Bonus Action and Channel Oath Charge to deal psychic damage to enemies in a 9m radius and possibly frighten them. Deals 2d6+Cleric Class Level and applies Frightened for two turns on a failed Wisdom Saving Throw. Deals half damage and doesn't apply Frightened on a successful saving throw.



Level 6.

Aura of Madness: Once per long rest, you can create a 3m aura centered around you for ten turns. Any enemy (except Constructs) who starts its turn in the aura must make a Wisdom Saving Throw or receive the Crown of Madness condition for one turn. 

Alien Constitution: You have advantage on Constitution saving throws that you make to maintain your concentration on a spell. Additionally, you are immune to the Frightened and Charmed conditions, and you have resistance to psychic damage.



Level 8.


I'm not a huge fan of Potent Spellcasting or Divine Strikes, so I opted for some additional passives at this level instead.

Third Eye Open: You have +3 to Initiative and can't be Surprised. Additionally, you gain expertise in Perception and Insight.
