Mod features

1. Be Astarion's friend (even on platonic runs)

In the vanilla game, you can only offer Astarion friendship as a gentle breakup option. I worked this option into the platonic version of this conversation.

2. Both confessions in one playthrough for romanced Astarion

I did my best to translate everyone's feedback on my original Confession Edit mod into a romance track that allows you to experience both of these important character moments in one playthrough.

  • You can complete the Araj and Yurgir questlines in any order. But narratively, (IMO) it makes more sense to visit Araj first.
  • If you load this mod on a save file where you've already partnered with Astarion, you'll get the other confession as soon as you meet the requirements for it.
  • The Araj confession no longer locks in the romance. Instead, if you defended him, you’ll discuss the impact of your choice without immediately committing to going steady. But depending on  your choices, you or he can still end things here.

If you supported Astarion's decision, the Araj conversation will end after you discuss how it affected him

  • The Yurgir ("nice, simple, plan") confession is now the only way to lock in his romance (see FAQ below for the requirements)
  • I also took this opportunity to rewrite some dialogue options for Origin Karlach, who can reference sleeping with Astarion in the vanilla game even though it never happened because of her engine
  • Since you can get both confessions in one playthrough, I reworked some dialogues so that the two scenes won't feel redundant/repetitive.

3. Dialogue options before the final lock-in
Like in the 1.0 version, you can ask Astarion what he wants to do and/or tell him you can be together without sex in addition to the final lock-in option. The other three options (Hug him, open your mind, "You mean a great deal to me") all have the same reaction ("You're full of surprises, aren't you?"), so I left them alone. I also moved these two options to the top of the list to (hopefully) make it clear that these are the 'bonus' ones.

Installation, conflicts, and FAQs

Install the .pak with BGMM or Vortex.

This mod overrides the following files:

\Data\Mods\GustavDev\Story\DialogsBinary\Camp\SoloDreams\CAMP_Astarion_SD_ROM_BloodMerchantAftermath.lsf
\Data\Mods\GustavDev\Story\DialogsBinary\Companions\Astarion_InParty2_Nested_BloodMerchantAftermath.lsf
\Data\Public\GustavDev\Content\Assets\Dialogs\Camp\[PAK]_SoloDreams\_merged.lsf
\Data\Public\GustavDev\Content\Assets\Dialogs\[PAK]_Companions\_merged.lsf

It will conflict with any mods that override these files, including the original Astarion Confession Edit mod. Choose wisely ;)

Can I install this mod mid-campaign?
Yes, it's fine to install this mod on an existing campaign. For best results, install on a save file that hasn't seen either cutscene yet, but it's fine if you progressed the story further than that. It doesn't make sense to install this mod on any campaigns that are already in Act 3 though, because by then it's too late to see either cutscene -- they are only available in Act 2.

What order will the scenes play in?
Unlocked camp nights in BG3 always play in priority order. The romanced Araj scene is higher priority than the Yurgir confession; if both are available on the same night, the Araj one will happen first. The Dark Urge resist scene takes precedence over both of these (in case that helps with planning/timing events in your run).

What if I already got one of the confessions?
You won't be able to re-watch that confession, but you'll still have access to the other one! This mod will unlock the other confession as an available camp night, and it'll play as soon as you meet the requirements for it.*

For example, if you load a save where:
  • You got the Yurgir confession but haven't talked to Araj yet: The Araj confession will play after you talk to Araj with Astarion in your party
  • You got the Yurgir confession and already talked to Araj: The Araj confession will play on the next long rest
  • You got the Araj confession and haven't killed Yurgir yet: The Yurgir confession will be unlocked after all the requirements are met
  • You got the Araj confession and already learned about the scars: The Yurgir confession will be unlocked after the remaining requirements are met

* Other scenes that are higher priority will happen first!

Do I have to complete the quests in a specific order?

Nope! While I think that narratively, it makes more sense to get the Araj confession first (since Jaheira tasks you with visiting Moonrise and the scene has no other requirements), you can take care of Yurgir first if you like. You can also completely skip Araj and just do the Yurgir confession.

How do I lock in Astarion's romance?

Since the Araj confession is no longer a romance night, the Yurgir confession is now the only way to lock in Astarion's romance, so make sure you meet all the requirements and get the scene before leaving Act 2.

What are the requirements for each confession?
The requirements for each scene are the same as the vanilla game until you defeat Ketheric. You need to be in a relationship with Astarion to trigger his Act 2 romance scenes. Talking to Araj before you start dating Astarion will lock you out of his romance for that playthrough.

Araj confession:
  • Talk to Araj with Astarion in your party

Yurgir confession:
  • Kill Yurgir (through dialogue or violence)
  • Get Raphael's revelation about the scars
  • 70+ approval
  • Visit Moonrise at least once

Yurgir fallback:
I didn't want players to get completely locked out of his romance if they talked to Araj but weren't able to kill Yurgir for some reason. After Ketheric is defeated, the requirements for his "nice, simple plan" confession change to:
  • Get Raphael's revelation about the scars -OR- defend him from Araj
  • 45+ approval
  • Visit Moonrise at least once

Just like in the vanilla game, you have to unlock the Araj scene before Shadowfell because she runs away when the assault on Moonrise starts. You can kill Yurgir and get Raphael's revelation anytime in Act 2 (even after Myrkul).

Does this mod work on multiplayer?
Yes! If you're romancing Astarion, keep in mind:
  • There is a bug in the vanilla game that locks you out of both romance scenes if the platonic player is the one to talk to Araj with Astarion. This makes progressing the romance impossible, and Astarion will break up with you in Act 3. I've attempted a bug fix for this, but haven't fully tested it yet.
  • It doesn't matter who does the talking with Yurgir -- whoever is dating Astarion will get chosen for Raphael's revelation and Astarion's romance night
