INTRODUCTION
In doing the latest update to my Wyldheart mod, I started playing around a little bit with adding a Magic Fang type spell to it. I discovered that it was possible to add the ability to bypass physical damage reductions to beast attacks, but making the attacks function as magical weapon attacks to bypass physical damage immunity was thus far eluding me. Even though some Druids have access to Primal Strike while wild shaped, I could not seem to make a similar function work for my beast summons...
I really wanted my summons to be able to add something to scenarios where I was facing foes with physical damage immunities, so I finally came up with this workaround. I then decided to make it a separate mod from my class mod, because I figured other classes might get a little bit of use out of it...
While the damage won't be phenomenal versus physical immunity, it will still allow your beasts to contribute something in those scenarios, and against all other foes in the game, it will make your little friend a force to be reckoned with.
REQUIREMENTS
None. This mod is dependency free and I have run it with other spell mods installed without issue.
FEATURES
This mod adds 3 spells to your game:
Magic Fang, Lesser - Casting this spell grants your beast friend a +1 bonus to hit, a +1d4 bonus to damage (will always roll a minimum of 2 damage), and allows your beast's unarmed attacks to bypass physical damage reduction. The spell lasts for 5 minutes.
Druids can get this spell at level 1.
Rangers can get this spell at level 1.
Clerics get this spell at level 1.
Wyldhearts can get this spell at level 1.
Magic Fang - Casting this spell grants your beast friend a +1 bonus to hit, a +2d4 elemental bonus to damage (will always roll a minimum of 4 damage), and it allows your beast's unarmed attacks to bypass physical damage reduction. The spell lasts for 5 minutes.
Casting this spell, you will get to choose one of four damage types, which are Fire, Cold, Lightning and Force. The spell does not stack with itself or other versions of the spell. If you cast the fire version and then cast the cold version on your beast, then the fire version will be overwritten.
Druids can get this spell at level 5.
Rangers can get this spell at level 9.
Clerics can get this spell at level 5.
Wyldhearts can get this spell at level 5.
Magic Fang, Greater - This functions the same as Magic Fang with a few key differences. You will always roll a minimum of 8 damage, the number of damage dice is increased to +4d4, and your bonus to hit is now a +2.
Druids can get this spell at level 9.
Rangers can get this spell at...well...umm...guess you need to make friends with a Wyldheart, Druid or Cleric, because you can't cast higher level spells...
Clerics can get this spell at level 9.
Wyldhearts can get this spell at level 9.
Now, a note for my Wyldheart mod users, this spell is set to only work for creatures tagged as beasts, and a few of my summons are fey, elementals and monstrosities. Considering the spell is "Magic Fang", at least for the beast-like monstrosities, I added the beast tag to those, so the spell will be usable for the worgs, blink dog, shadow mastiff, etc from my mod. Also, this mod is only compatible with version 4.0 and up of my mod, which will be released later today.
