First things first. Why didn't I make a separate class? I'll be honest: making all of the things I did for this mod was a lot of work. I started running out of steam on the outfit, and just about gave up when it came time to make this last one. So I changed tracks, looked at all the classes, and made a rogue subclass instead of a full new class. Why rogue? Bloodborne is all about moving quickly, pinpointing your foe's weakness, and striking as hard as possible. That felt like a rogue to me.
I tried to get photos of the abilities, but my game minimizes every time I hit print screen now, and I have absolutely no idea why, but I wasn't about to upload a bunch of grainy cell phone pictures, so hopefully the following descriptions make up for it.
Without further ado, I present the Hunter of the Old Blood Rogue Archetype
Level 3:
- Hunter's Training - you gain proficiency in martial and simple weapons as well as medium armor (Considering few of the weapons I made in my trick weapons mod are rogue proficiencies, this felt necessary)
- Versatile Combatant - you learn a new way to utilize your sneak attack, granting you the ability to do so without finesse weapons (This grants an ability with the same icon as Sneak Attack that will only work if you aren't using a finesse weapon, allowing you to score sneak attack damage with any weapon you want, but all other rules for sneak attack still apply)
- Hunter's Arts - you gain a pool of dice to fuel certain abilities in this class (Start with 2 d4s that function like superiority dice, growing in size and number as you level up, and refreshing on a Short or Long Rest)
- Parry - as a reaction, you can roll a Hunter Arts Dice and subtract the number rolled from incoming damage, potentially taking no damage from the attack (Functions exactly like the Battlemaster's parry)
- Visceral Attack - when you kill a target or score a critical hit, you may use a bonus action to make an additional weapon damage and adding a Hunter's Arts Dice to the damage dealt
- Quick Step - use a Hunter's Arts Dice to gain the benefits of dash and disengage as a bonus action
Level 9:
- Extra Attack - does what it says on the tin
Level 13 (that's right! This build goes to 20):
- Blood Empowerment - you gain proficiency in Constitution Saving Throws and your health increases by 5%
Level 17:
- A Hunter is Never Alone - as an action, reach across time and space to summon the shade of an Old Hunter to aid you in battle (Lasts until slain, is a simple shadow with enhanced stats. I considered making it have parry and quickstep, but I was absolutely out of steam by then, so I left it as is)
Questions I'm anticipating:
- "Will you do...?" I will not. This mod functions as I intended, so I will not be tweaking it further mechanically
- "The icon doesn't work!" Correct. I couldn't figure out how to make it work, but the icon is in the mod files!
- "Will you make a level 12 version with the abilities squished down?" I will not.
- "Is it balanced?" Probably not. Most of the abilities should be fine, but the 5% health increase is massive and I think it increases the health you get at higher levels too. Course, you're already beyond what the game intends at that point so. *shrug*
Now, I know this is a departure from my attitude on past mods, as I've always been willing to try and implement tweaks or fixes from the community, but I kinda want to get back to actually playing the game and making fun weapon mods. Knocking all of these Bloodborne themed ones out in such rapid succession kinda killed the fun of modding and made it feel like a chore, so I'm walking away from this one. If future patches break it, I'll do my best to fix it, but adjusting it or implementing suggestions? Nah.
That being said. If anyone out there wants to take it upon themselves to tweak this mod or whatever, be my guest. None of the assets in it are owned by other creators, or shared under Creative Commons, it's just my words and ideas on what'd be a thematic Bloodborne style subclass. So go nuts if you're so inclined. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy this final installment in my Bloodborne mod series.
