About this mod

Unhides origin/character tags from dialog lines, letting you see when a dialogue choice is unique to specific characters.

Permissions and credits
Changelogs
This is a minor and unobtrusive mod that makes the origin/character tags visible in dialogue choices. These tags are already in the game but are hidden from dialog by default.

Just like other character tags, such as [Druid], [Dragonborn], [Paladin of Selûne], or [Hag-Eyed], which are shown on unique dialogue choices, all party members also have their own character tags (e.g., [Astarion], [Karlach], [Jaheira]). Those tags are normally not visible, but this mod unhides them, allowing you to quickly identify and distinguish unique options when playing as them.

Some origin tag descriptions (the text when you hover over a tag) may be missing, seem unpolished, or not translated/localized, especially for later characters. This is not a bug or caused by this mod but simply how they are in the localization files, as these tags were not initially meant to be visible to players (see screenshots for a couple of examples, i.e. Minthara's).

Note that dialogue trees/versions exclusive to characters typically don't have any tags, as the entire interaction is already specific to them. (i.e. the character specific narration when you just get off the nautiloid, meeting Wyll as Karlach, Astarion's nightmare... etc.).

Works for:
✓ Lae'zel          ✓ Shadowheart
✓ Astarion       ✓ Gale
✓ Karlach        ✓ Wyll (Human+Devil/Fiend Form)
✓ Halsin          ✓ Minthara
✓ Jaheira        ✓ Minsc
✓ Dark Urge

Installation
Download the pak file (LIX_OriginDialogTags.pak), then place it in:
%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods

If in doubt how it should look, check screenshot. :)

Uninstallation
Just remove it again.

Good-To-Know
  • Does not require any other mods or script extensions.
  • Does not recompile story files.
  • Does not alter or impact any text/localization files.
  • Does not require installation through mod managers, nor require manual editing of Modsettings.lsx
  • Can be added and removed at any time without affecting campaigns/saves.
  • Works in multiplayer, even if other players don't have it.
  • Works in Honour Mode.
  • Does not disable Achievements.

If you have mods that alter localization files, the tag names and descriptions may be different; however, this will not affect the functionality of this mod.
It will conflict with any mods that modify the same 'Tags' lsf-files, though I don't know of any that do? Let me know, and I'll add mod incompatability here!

I have been using this myself for the past half year or so, across multiple campaigns; some with other mods, some without. I haven't had issues, but please let me know if you encounter any!

F.A.Q.
Does this mod work with OIO, Show Approval Ratings, etc.?
✓ Yes! Those mods work by altering the localization files - essentially, appending the approvals/flag info to the text itself. This mod doesn't change any language files, it just toggles whether the specific tags are visible or not.

Can the lacking descriptions for the tags be made/edited/polished?
✓ Yes, though it's not high on my priority list. It may be added some day.

Will this be added/uploaded to the official mod support/mod.io?
✓ Already is! I highly recommend downloading this mod through the in-game mod manager instead.
