About this mod

An adaptation of vermintide 2 Shade career to bg3. The subclasses are a lot more free, took inspiration from various places (dos1,dos2,LE,lol). Tried to stay very faithful to the base vt2 career, although I had to do some concession to get in to work in bg3. As far as I tested, it works fine with p7.

Introduction
This is my adaptation of vermintide 2's shade career. It's a fragile purely martial class, adept of dual wielding both in melee or at range. The play style is supposed to be that of an assassin dealing devastating damage with few attacks rather than making many attacks. As I was deeply disappointed to see the backstabbing system from dos2 (and from EA) dissapear only to get replaced by Sneak Attack (which is a mechanic I personnally cannot stand), I made my own system. This isn't perfect, but it works very well in the vast majority of cases and it is the core of the class (position yourself well ! Behing the target !).

This mod includes 1 class, and 2 subclasses. The class itself is very faithful to the source material (Shade career) even if, ofc, I had to make some adjustement. The 2 subclasses are much more "homebrew" if I may say, but it stays loyal to the design of the class as a whole, at least I hope.

Shade

"Shades are exiles, scions of a forbidden art too dangerous to be tolerated. They haunt the nights, moving through shadows with agility to murder their target, their gift allowing them to blend into the dark as if it was themselves. They are fleet-footed death, come to claim the blood of the living."

Specialized in quick assassination, this class uses a homebrew backstabbing system to deal high single target damage. As a true assassin it also has access to invisibility in several form : the core spell of the class is Infiltrate, making you invisible for 3 turns and making your next backstabbing weapon attack a critical hit aswell as dealing additionnal damage. This spell is then improved at level 11, where you can decide between 3 different upgrades, each heavily inspired by the last talent's row of vermintide.

The class also has access to numerous spells, each belonging to one of 3 categories :
  • Vicious Trickeries. Techniques specialized in disabling your target or dealing damage. You can use 2 of them per short rest.
  • Cautious Subterfuges. Defensive reactions, this is your most important survivability tool. You can use 1 of them per short rest.
  • Murder's Art. Powerful techniques, able to deal devastating damage. You can only use one per long rest.
Each of these skills (with some limitations  you can see it in the google sheet bellow) can be used with your main hand or offhand ranged or melee weapons, making you able to adapt on the go.

But where this class truly shines is in its passives. You can choose one of three passive at level 1, 5, 7 and 9, each having hidden synergies and combos able to push the damage output even further or making you to compensate your lack of HP.

Umbral Blade

'An artisan of shadows, Umbral Blades are the true heir of Shades. They blink in and out of foe's reach, at each movement another deadly cut. They are lurking in the dark, unseen, untouchable, waiting for the proper moment to unleash their murderous expertise."

This subclass's main feature is that it can spawn a lingering shadow at the start of his turn which last 3 turns. For as long as the shadow lives, you can use a spell called Shadow Recall to teleport back to it. This is a toggleable passive feature, which turns off automatically after a shadow spawns (I thought it was way too much micromanagement to have to toggle it on/off almost every turn).

At later levels, this subclass obtains immunity to blindness and some obscurite related passives. At level 12, it gains a very powerful (to be fair, overpowered) ability : Flurry of Shadows, a skill that incapacitates you for 2 turns as well as turning you invulnerable, but during which at each end of your turn you deliver 7 blows to any enemies in a combat that is standing in the dark.

Khaine's Hand

'They have become the hand of Khaela Mensha Khaine out of pure devotion and faith. They fight with a blade in each hand, slicing through their opponent's flesh, dancing through the spilling guts and streams of blood, relishing the feeling of true terror they inspire. Only long afterwards do they look back and see the trail of death in their wake.'

Heavily centered about dual-wielding, this subclass lets you play more like a traditionnal martial class rather than a pure assassin. As soon as level 3, it gains bonus damage with offhand attacks aswell as the ability to dual wield non-heavy weapons (like the dual wielder feat). It also gains the ability to use offhand weapon attacks as an action instead of a bonus action.

At later levels, it unlocks a passive encouraging to alternate offhand and mainhand attacks aswell as an offhand riposte interrupt categorized as a Vicious Trickery. At level 12 it unlock a second use of Murder's Art per long rest.

Google Sheet

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1i9UqolNiWJsD_e_odLV1CH9DQeeDJMby-58wM1FKl64/edit?usp=sharing A sheet document where I list every spell/passive of the class aswell as the progression of it. I'll try to make it as precise as possible (like adding status).

Thanks

Many thanks to Norbyte, without whom SE wouldn't exist and thus this mod wouldn't be possible.
Many thanks to the numerous people helping me in Larian's Discord (Aahz, MuffinEnjoyer, Simosas, JuuM and some other).
Thanks to wesslen and his Echo Knight mod, without which I would have had a much harder time learning how to make some of my ideas work.
Thanks to larian for their game, which is purely amazing !
And finally thanks to the vermintide 2 community which is awesome <3
