YOU WILL EDIT 1 FILE, BUT WILL NEED 2 PIECES OF SOFTWARE:

  • BG3 Modder's Multitool: https://github.com/ShinyHobo/BG3-Modders-Multitool
  • Notepad++: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
Grab the newest downloads.

And of course, grab either DisplacerSummon Loose in Miscellaneous files

SET UP:
  • Run the installer for Notepad++.
  • Unzip the BG3 Modder's Multitool and put it somewhere outside Program Files. (Legit installation instructions here: https://github.com/ShinyHobo/BG3-Modders-Multitool/wiki/Installation)
  • Open up the application named "bg3-modders-multitool" and atop the window, go into configurations. (Legit configuration instructions here: https://github.com/ShinyHobo/BG3-Modders-Multitool/wiki/Configuration)
  • Or just direct to it your bg3.exe location, (e.g. C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin\bg3.exe).
  • Then direct it to your game Document's location, (e.g. C:\Users\Bob'sYourUncle\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3)
  • Check the box that says "Pack .paks to Mods folder instead of zipping." *When in doubt, don't tick this box. Mod manager will give you a zip file instead, exactly like the one you would download from me, then you can do with it what you like.

EDIT:
  • Turn your attention to the loose file you've downloaded from this mod. Unzip it, navigate to DisplacerSummon\Localization\English and open DisplacerSummon.loca.xml, or just the only file in there, up with Notepad++.
  • Ignore everything else. Change "Summoned Displacer Beast" to what you want your kitty cat to be called.
  • Change "Displacer Beast Illusion" to what you want your kitty cat copies to be called.
  • Save it, then exit.
*You can change other texts too. For example, the condition the Progression cat spawns with - "Aid of the Abyss," is purely flavour/cosmetic. I added it for the purple condition dot on portraits that can help distinguish origin from illusions. But it's very visible, so you can change the name and text of that for your own lore if you want.
*You'll have to copy the lines over every update.

PACKING:
  • Navigate back out to DisplacerSummon, and drag the entire folder into the blue box in Modder's Multitool. There will be messages telling you it worked (e.g. [09/29/2023 16:37:39] DisplacerSummon pak moved to Mods folder!).
  • That's it!

Enable the mod in BG3 Mod Organizer if you haven't. If you have, the new pak will just replace the old one. You don't have to do anything else.

You can repeat this process any time in a playthrough. The change will be reflected immediately upon reopening the game.

Thank you for this mod, having a blue murder kitty named as my cat (and her illusions named after her brother), and having them obliterate my foes is something I definitely needed!

Would it be at all possible to separate the
        <content contentuid="h8b2c2517gbb9fg4abag9be9g4926d3de668a" version="1">Summoned Displacer Beast</content>

lines to their own .config/.txt file? Main reason for asking this, is that it would be nice to not have to redo the .pak with the multitool every time the mod updates.

Even if it isn't, wonderful mod, thank you!

Wonderful. Worked perfectly. Now I have a huge weird cat named Renfield. After the slightly smaller weird cat I had in college.

I'm trying to do this on the vanilla version 1.0.6 and it's not working (neither item shows up in the tutorial chest, and when I try doing it after eating the collar, it says, for both the summon spell and beast itself, NOT FOUND).

I tried extracting the .pak and in localization>english, there's no "DisplacerSummon.loca", instead there's "__MT_GEN_LOCA_41dcb949-a5a2-4726-95bb-215f7a784025.loca". Renaming the edited displacersummon to __mt_gen_blahblah gives me the NOT FOUND issue.

For the record, the .pak download works out of the box completely fine! It's only when trying to edit the special boy, it stops working. Not really an issue-issue because obviously the mod works fine, I'm just not sure why I am forbidden from naming him. Possibly one of life's modding mysteries! (I still love you, even if you're nameless, displacer beast)

If you want to edit things, don't download the pak versions. Grab one of the loose ones in miscellaneous files.

You won't have to extract anything, just go in, change the text, and pack it up.

Okay, we're online! For some reason, the ConverterApp must have been packing it weird, because when I used Modders Multitool (I don't usually use that specific one), it worked completely fine.

Thank you for this... I've gone through and completely wreaked havoc on your tooltips and spell names to fit this displacer beast into my own stupid lore. xDD

Thank you so much for the mod and the instructions. Getting to have my tabletop D&D character's actual companion animal with them is wonderful (even if she's a good bit more powerful here).
