Ok, long shot in the dark because i'm sure there is nobody around anymore but...

First, by itself, if you follow the advices here, it works! And it works brilliantly ! GG YyrssIn !

Why does it crash for most? I know why and I can't solve it, I need a hand!
Reshade doesn't works with opentexmod !

Launch the game without opentexmod, it start, the reshade works!
Delete D3D9.dll, launch the game with opentexmod, it starts, the textures are there.

But, launch the game with reshade installed (d3d9.dll there) WITH opentexmod, the game crash even before starting !

I don't want to chose!  Help ! Anybody have the workaround?

I had major problems getting this to work as well, but in the end, it works and looks great.
If your game won't launch after installing this mod, uninstall and reinstall the game first, you screwed up something big time.
If your game doesn't seem any different, it's your fault. Read number 4 below.

Check the screenshots, they lay out pretty well the order of things to do.
      Sort of.

You can ignore the nVidia Inspector screenshots if you want. They're not necessary to making the mod work. If you want
to mess about with it, Google nVidia Profile Inspector.

      1.  Run the game. Go into AC2 Options -> Graphics and turn off Post Processing (bottom of the list). Shut the game down.
      2
.  Download and install ReShade as described in the author's text guide.
      3.  Unpack the mod's zip file to your AC2 directory as is. Everything. Don't change paths or put anything in a subfolder that you or your compression software created. WinRAR's default does this. Don't YOU do it.
      4.  The author's game is probably not installed where yours is. So, you need to open the d3d9.ini file (which you unzipped into your AC2 directory) with a text editor and modify the paths to match where YOUR copy of the game is installed (screenshot with the red lines),
For example, mine is in D:\Steam Library\steamapps\common\Assassin's Creed 2\. Different drive. Different directory.
Without changing d3d9.ini, ReShade will load but not do anything. Modify ALL the paths underlined in red to match where YOUR copy of AC2 is installed.
      5.  Save your d3d9.ini changes.
      6.  Load the game. You'll know if you installed ReShade correctly because it'll tell you and the game will slow down while ReShade loads external scripts. Wait for the game to return to normal (about 30 seconds max depending).
You may encounter a text box full of warnings. Ignore them. They're there because this version of ReShade is not what the author used when making the mod. ReShade has been updated a lot since then.
      7.  Press F2 whenever the game is running to open the ReShade settings (blue and grey box) and give you your normal desktop cursor. Close the warnings box at this point because it won't disappear on it's own and it's f#$%ing annoying to look at. Now change the ReShade settings like in the screenshots (Settings tab at the top).
      8.  AC2 uses different maps that each require a separate ReShade profile. Depending on where in the game you are, press F2 to open ReShade. Make sure you're in the Home tab at the top. You'll see a drop-down list box right at the top that tells you what preset is currently loaded. Here is where you'll select the correct preset depending on where you are in the game.
      9.  Press the Scroll Lock key a few times and be amazed. Scroll Lock turns the ReShade effects on and off. F2 shows you the settings.

Thank you very much for a more detailed description as I'm sry to say the mod author's install description wasnt suffice. I havent alot of experience with reshade to begin with (mostly ENBs) so that too can make it a hazzle. Only weird change is that the reshade menu opens and closes with the home button instead of f2 (which it did multiple times as I tried to install, uninstall and reinstall reshade - weird).

Gratzie anyway, now it works :)

    Dear Author,

I can't seem to get it right. The Reshade menu on its own is working perfectly. I can toggle the initial effects and tweak them inside the in-game menu.

The problem is, when i add your reshade-shaders folder to it. it says: "failed to compile" at all the files that were in your map. Could you please explain why this is happening and if there is a fix for it?

    Thanks in advance.

Did you change all off the directory addresses like it shows to do in the d3d9.ini??
Did you use the old ReShade 3.0.8 or a newer version?

@yytssln-- Hi, I have a slight issue I'm hoping you can help me with, please.

I've correctly setup ReShade and the presets are working, I have all the effects selected when installing ReShade, however, DOF and Magic Bloom are highlighted red (Failed to compile) with error messages:

    DOF Error:
    • Error X3120 - Invalid type for index
    • Error X3000 - Syntax error

    Magic Bloom Errors:
    • Error X3011 - Low_Mip
    • Error X3011 - Value must be a literal expression
    • Error X3538 - value must be a scalar expression

Any idea how I can fix this, please?

[Edit] - Very sorry, my fault, the ReShade version I installed must have been a little too new for the preset, once I used the old ReShade v3.0.8 everything worked perfectly, the mod is awesome and Assassin's Creed II never looked better.

    Thank you, yytssln
