About this mod

Modifies fog settings to remove the blue haze and add clarity to the game's visuals.

Permissions and credits
This is a simple edit of AMFP's map files to remove, reduce, or otherwise modify fog settings to produce a cleaner image. Most maps have simply had fog colors reduced to black, which removes the colored haze and darkens the scenery, for a more natural and moodier image. Some maps have had fog removed outright, while others retain the fog with tweaks.

This mod does not remove individually placed fog effects, so the intended atmosphere is maintained. For example, Tesla 1 and the sewer maintain a degree of fogginess, albeit not blue tinted.

Previous attempts at removing the fog either only removed it temporarily, following reloading a save, or they did not account for fog culling, causing parts of the world to not render.

This mod does increase hardware demand in some areas where fog culling was used to unload portions of the map that could not be seen. Disabling this means your computer has to render more. If you already struggle to run this game, this will not help. If you have any modern gaming system from the past ten years, it should be fairly easy to keep to 60 FPS (max allowed) at all times, despite these changes.

Install:

1) Launch the game at least once and disable color grading in the video options

2) Navigate to the Machine for Pigs maps folder

On Steam, this is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\Common\Machine for Pigs\maps

3) Optionally create a backup folder in this directory and copy all existing map files into it

You can always reinstall or repair to revert changes / uninstall this mod

4) Extract the mod archive and copy all files within into the Machine for Pigs maps folder, overwriting existing files

5) Start a new game

Loaded save files will retain old map data, only loading the changes for subsequent levels. You won't see a change until the next level transition.

6) Optionally but recommended: install ReShade with Lumasharpen, set to approximately 1-1.5 strength

Note that validating local game files will "repair" these changes and revert map data to default.
